Baptist Press reported yesterday that the Justice Department has informed the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention that it has initiated an investigation that will involve multiple SBC entities. This comes after an independent investigation (full text of report) of sexual abuse allegations against clergy and Executive Committee members commissioned by SBC. A Release by the SBC Executive Committee (quoted in full in the Baptist Press report) says in part:
Individually and collectively each SBC entity is resolved to fully and completely cooperate with the investigation. While we continue to grieve and lament past mistakes related to sexual abuse, current leaders across the SBC have demonstrated a firm conviction to address those issues of the past and are implementing measures to ensure they are never repeated in the future.
Could someone please explain if a school, church, synagogue, university, etc. can investigate rape allegations? That’s not their job. Isn’t that why we have police?
It should be simple, you get a credible accusation of criminal sexual assault, call the police or sheriff and let them investigate. They are trained to do these types of investigations.
You mean, like they did with Epstein?
Someone explain how this is a federal matter? I have no idea if any allegations are true, but I do know I will never believe anything that comes out of this justice department. They have lost all credibility and because of that this just sounds like another attack on the 1A.
going after everyone BUT Biden and his crime family!
After last week, do you trust law enforcement at all any more?
The o̶b̶a̶m̶a̶ biden justice dept has been targeting SBC for a long time. This will be a long smear campaign.
I remembered back in May the Alabama statewide online news, AL.com, which I will add is EXTREMELY LIBERAL had an article titled: “These 33 Alabama ministers are on the Southern Baptist Church’s alleged sex abuser list”
I read the article and most of the cases were decades old and the person was sentenced. One of the 33 listed went back to 1987. Also, many were not the churches pastor. Some were music ministers, youth ministers, etc.
What this tells me is that they’ve been planning this for a long time. No doubt any sexual abusers needs to be severely punished just like all those men having sex with the Epstein girls. I don’t know what the hold up is for the DOJ on that. But have not doubt that this is just another opportunity for these evil thugs to smear people of faith.
They’re showing everyone if you don’t carry our agenda or speak out against it we’re coming after you. It’s the Demorats campaign to silence any opposition.
SBC opposes abortion. That’s what this is about.
I will speak with my vote.
In some cases they were not reported and covered up by some member organizations - that was what was being investigated to possibly implement measures to prevent this from being able to occur. However, the SBC is not really a direct governing body and churches are mainly autonomous - the SBC can choose to admit or remove member churches.
You are right, the SBC is not really the synod of a Presbyterian Church or the Diocese of a Catholic Church. Not quite that organized.
Old fashioned sex rules just get in the way.
Let the churches start promoting adultery, promiscuity, multiple sex partners, lesbian and gay sex, pornography, sex orgies, etc. etc. then maybe more folks might want to become a part of the church. (If that’s the goal.)
Kinda like the more progressive Methodists are looking to do.
Surely the Bible promotes such lifestyles. I mean God is love, and more love is needed in the world.
this is just more of the DOJ going after their enemies.
Bkmk
And why aren’t they investigating government schools, in which the problem is vastly worse? I think we know why.
I live in Pennsylvania, and the only ads for Gubernatorial Candidate Josh Shapiro (D) that I remember seeing on TV are about his work on the Catholic Priest sex abuse investigation. Democrats only care about supposed sex abusers if they can score political points. Meanwhile, teachers are free to molest at will.
(Shapiro is currently PA Attorney General)
“...the SBC is not really the synod of a Presbyterian Church or the Diocese of a Catholic Church. Not quite that organized.”
Actually, it’s quite disorganized ;-)
“Someone explain how this is a federal matter?”
The Biden DOJ needs to be sure that no one is cutting into their market of child sex and human trafficking.
They don’t need any federal laws. They are the law.
SBC opposes abortion. That’s what this is about.
This is most likely the prime motivation.
