FWIW, I remember hearing about there being a priest shortage fifty or so years ago.
When Pope John Paul II died, 2 million people were expected to visit Rome for the funeral.
There were 7+ million, a huge number being young people from all over the globe. It was the largest funeral ever in history.
Many people have wondered if Pope Benedict was forced to resign. We may never find out the truth.
