A "feared" evangelical pastor who used his trusted position to abuse children and adults over 20 years has been convicted of multiple rapes of members of his congregation.

Self-styled prophet Michael Oluronbi, originally from Nigeria, was found guilty of the offences against six women and a man - five of whom attended his church.

Some of his offences were carried out after he convinced victims to take part in "spiritual bathing", which he claimed would "cleanse" them of evil spirits.

Oluronbi was convicted on Friday after a trial at Birmingham Crown Court, and his offending can now be reported after restrictions were lifted.

During the trial, a jury heard that some of his young female victims became pregnant multiple times but were taken to abortion clinics by qualified pharmacist Oluronbi, to cover up what was happening.

He was convicted of 15 counts of rape, seven counts of indecent assault and two counts of sexual assault.

The 60-year-old's wife Juliana was convicted of three counts of aiding and abetting rape after helping arrange some of the terminations.

The religious leader was brought to justice after one of his victims, now an adult, came forward.

Jurors heard Oluronbi was linked to a Christian church in Edgbaston - the Cherubim and Seraphim Church - which had roots in Nigeria.

That he got away with this for so long speaks loudly. Only the mind numbing fear of being call a racist possibly held victims back. Diversity at work.
Years ago back in the 1950’s, he would not have gone a month without the Bobbies at his door.

Hello, Peter-!

Not sure about the racist concern on this case.

The young girls were within his church...think of the cases with the Catholic Church and young boys...boys and parents would be threatened with the ‘you’re destroying the CHURCH’ speeches if they want/wanted to go forward.

So, I think that might be in play on that level....

And the places that performed abortions...they’re only too happy to be paid for abortions...why would folks who have no regard for life to begin with be bothered to report a repeat customer?

So, on that level at least with these people, I do not think the ‘racist’ accusation would be the concern.

Now, if the girls had gone to the authorities or their parents had, and the authorities not done anything, I would easily see and agree with your point.

He’s definitely filth, as is his wife, and are the abortionists.

I would truly venture the girls were simply terrified of his perceived spiritual authority. The parents may have also been affected by that same worry...

When people truly place their faith in the wrong hands it can be so terrible.

I grew up Catholic and I can recall reading and hearing all about ‘the folks in the Church who want simply to destroy the Church,’ and can easily see this type of fear used by others.

Your point well taken by me. Perhaps I am too sensitive on this point. In Canada where I emigrated years ago The charge of "racist" is freely used to quell person's views. It often works. One wonders if "the punishment will fit the crime"?

Yes, the human tragedy of the miscreants within the Catholic Church happened in Canada also. There were numbers of innocent children here. Priests have gone to jail.

I can understand your thinking pattern.

Canada is in a freaking freefall of nastiness and those who support the nastiness throw out terms meant to silence folks who do not think like they want to think.

Reading articles about Canada make is clear how closely we missed a bullet with getting Pres Trump.

We would be in a world of hurt here in the USA if he’d not won.

Did not mean to offend you, at all. Please accept my apology. :)

By the way, I often put my keyboard in my mouth (foot in mouth, get it? LOL). If ever I overstep on a comment PLEASE do not hesitate to let me know!
