As a Methodist I feel very disconnected from church right now since the membership tried innoculate homosexuality as ok into the denominational practice. I’m not sure what church is anymore.

I don't know if you're familiar with I'll Be Honest, but they're a great ministry that actually has a map of very Scripturally-centered, grace-oriented churches around the country.

Find a faithful bible believing church. I recommend the Lutheran Church Missouri synod (not ELCA) but I’m sure there are others out there as well

Hi, Hoosier-Daddy -

Christianity as you speak of is a Social Program and not the Word. Those who fall into the Social Program of Christianity will often fall away when the pain gets to hard, the road gets to rough and the potential loss of following the Word gets to steep.

Christ preached quite differently; that those that follow Him should be prepared for grief because the world rejected Him and mocked Him and as such His followers are to expect the same. As His followers we should make every attempt to share His message and to live lives that show His Truth; that can be so rough as we are flawed beings and that makes us stumble at times.

The getting back up and continuing the climb towards the end of the path and encouraging those amongst His followers is what we are to do. That means to be honest as well as loving.

I realize it sounds harsh.

From a secular viewpoint no idea has been more successful than Christianity.

There’s a great video on YT of Paul washer describing what a testimony from the Apostles would sound like if they were ever invited to one of these prosperity churches, like the one helmed by Joel Osteen.

Thank you, OddLane for that bit of YT information. I shall see if I can pull it up. :)

Oh, for sure, there would be an outcry in the pews of those churches.

I’ve often felt uncomfortable about Pastors/Ministers/Priests/Bishops etc... having magnificent abodes, lush vehicles, thousand dollar suits and such....

They make the spreading of the Word into a business.

It’s so easy to get corrupted....

I’m not discounting the blessings that the Lord God chooses to shower on His people should He wish to do so....

It’s quite the opposite, though, for people to expect it from the Lord God as if He owes it to people for reading His Word and giving monies to organizations.

It is impossible to lose faith in Christ almighty

You can only lose faith in yourself

Christianity isn’t a failed proposition - many of the religions that sprung up over it are failed propositions though.....they invariably got so caught up in societal ills that they lost their focus and spend way more time on issues other than Jesus.

Does Islam teach love and self sacrifice?
And love and self sacrifice for even those who hate you. The ultimate gift of Hope that there is indeed something greater than ourselves.

Agreed. And why do Satanists attack Christians and Christianity almost exclusively? RE: Satanists set up displays next to the nativity scenes.

The irony is that maybe, just maybe, Christians have it right.

Dump the church, bypass the corruption, and read and learn the Bible for yourself and pray.

The church is within you!

Organized religion has done more damage to the faith by corrupting the Word and giving non-believers an excuse to not believe. Very bad church leaders have done the work of the devil.

I honestly wonder if a single human being or an organized group can administer the Faith. Humans are flawed. We are all sinners.

Does Islam teach love and self sacrifice? And love and self sacrifice for even those who hate you.

Basically what Islam teaches is there is only one God and Muhammad is his messenger.
That everyone on earth should submit to Islam or be subjugated ,converted or killed if they resist Islam.

That is the problem for us non-Muslims.
The second problem is that Christians want to apply their thinking to that problem, a thinking that involves praying, and forgiving in the naïve hope that Islam will change .
Fourteen hundred years of Muslims slaughtering non-muslims doesn't get the message across.

While Christians pray Muslims prey.
Fundamental Muslims will not adapt into a non-Muslim society and have to be kept out.

Christian thinking, naivetes , love, forgiveness and benevolence aids the spread of Islam.- Tom

Tom. That is a tough one. There is indeed evil in the world and should we passively be herded off in trains, like the Jews in Europe under the Nazi’s, to our demise or fight. I say fight.

One way to fight is to show Muslims the lies about their religion. Or show the contrast. And keep in mind that they are indoctrinated and even brainwashed.

Cults and religions like Islam cannot survive scrutiny and introspection and must keep their people captive. Cults and Islam do this a number of ways. But this is is their vulnerability. This is why Islam keeps it’s followers uneducated and enslaved.

I’m not chauvinist about denominational dogma
...................................
That’s fine so long as you concede that two contradictory dogmas can both be false but they cannot both be true!

God will judge us, & forgive us, as individuals.
....................................
Here, let me fix that sentence for you: God will judge us, and forgive OR condemn us as individuals.

Otherwise there’s no point to the act of judging. If you’re think of judging as admonishing, that is not the same thing. It’s doubtful God intends to lecture his children about their transgressions then pat them on the head and tell them they’re forgiven. Those who believe that need to contemplate the meaning of righteous judgment referred to in Rom. 2-6.

I replied to this statement

Christianity is the hope of mankind ultimately being able to live in harmony.

I think we are of like mind...I’m Huguenot descended partly from your state ...Majure surname

I was taught we are here to serve God and be obedient to his instruction and of course to accept Christ as our savior and gateway to everlasting life......earthly political or civilizational harmony is simply not my concern as related to God but more an earthly concern.

Southern baptists of my youth were fundamentalist with a scholars bent.

concern with good works or harmony has nothing to do with salvation although some sects seem to place more value on these things than we do....one large sect in particular as evidenced by this activist pope.

I do think Christianity is civilizing ...no question....which leads to more harmony one could say
