[Catholic Caucus] Priest Protests Against "Male-Only" Deacons

Father Roy Donovan, parish priest of Caheronlish, Limerick, has objected to the decision by his Archbishop Kieran O’Reilly of Cashel & Emly to introduce the permanent diaconate in his archdiocese. Donovan called on the archbishop to wait until the completion of a report by the papal commission on women deacons.

He further believes that “a woman could celebrate the Eucharist even better than a man being more familiar with the shedding of blood. A woman saying ‘this is my body, this is my blood’ can give more meaning to the Eucharist than any male celibate.”

The leadership of the radical Association of Catholic Priests fully supported Donovan, “We believe that proceeding with the introduction of male deacons at this time, and thereby adding another male clerical layer to ministry, is insensitive, disrespectful of women.”

He just embarrasses himself here. Someone please put a muzzle on him.

JP II started this snowball with his allowance of altar chicks.

Gross. False. The consecrated wine is the lifeblood of Christ, not a routine monthly byproduct.

JP II did a complete one 180 on altar chicks during his pontificate:

Inaestimabile Donum

18. There are, of course, various roles that women can perform in the liturgical assembly: these include reading the Word of God and proclaiming the intentions of the Prayer of the Faithful. Women are not, however, permitted to act as altar servers.(27)

Rome, April 3, 1980, Holy Thursday.

This instruction, prepared by the Sacred Congregation for the Sacraments and Divine Worship, was approved on April 17, 1980, by the Holy Father, John Paul II, who confirmed it with his own authority and ordered it to be published and to be observed by all concerned.

“More familiar with the shedding of blood “
We know what he means. And he is an ass. Monthly cycles are not shedding of blood.
Complete dork.

“We believe that proceeding with the introduction of male deacons at this time, and thereby adding another male clerical layer to ministry, is insensitive, disrespectful of women.”
First of all, ordained deacons have always been exclusively male. And second, the fact that ordained deacons have always been exclusively male means -- if what you say is true -- that the spotless spouse of Christ has been insensitive, disrespectful and, most important, unjust since her inception.

Do you have any idea what bunk you're belching, Fr. Donovan?

Many priests were unhappy with the “permanent deaconate”; while the Church claimed it was resurrecting something from the early Church, the priests saw it as letting men “play priest” while having a family (having it all, so to speak). There is little affinity between transitional and permanent deacons; I don’t think having the latter accomplished anything but diminishing the priesthood to the point where people would insist women could be priests as well - which is exactly what is happening. I know deacons and priests can’t do the same things, but it seems now the priest is reduced to the consecration. Use of “eucharistic ministers” (other fake priests, who don’t dress up and do include women) and “permanent deacons” have greatly reduced the priests’ role, especially when confession is rarely mentioned anymore. I really don’t understand what role a young seminarian thinks he will play in the American catholic Church...

Haven't any of them been circumcised? Or cut their finger?

To show just how disordered this is, he’s compares Christ’s sacrifice to women’s mentruation.

A routine monthly period (in most women) is a modern consequence of contraception.
