FULL TITLE: Student, 18, is suspended for two days and barred from her Christian high school's graduation ceremony because she is PREGNANT
A high school senior will not be allowed to participate in her high school's graduation ceremony because she is pregnant.
Maddi Runkles, 18, from Boonsboro, Maryland, goes to Heritage Academy, a small private Christian school in Hagerstown.
She discovered she was pregnant in January, just a few days after receiving a college acceptance letter, according to the New York Times.
But after she announced her pregnancy, Runkles was suspended for two days.
School officials also removed the 18-year-old from her position on student council and told her she wouldn't be able to join the rest of the senior class at graduation in June.

Never said they had rules or should not have. However when it comes to the life of an unborn child one must walk on eggshells sometimes to save it. Life has become so cheap that women will abort for any reason under the sun. She can’t be on student council or graduate? Oh yea, the next girl after her will be down at the clinic.
Where in the article did they say that the father was a student?
Pregnancy is beautiful. In my opinion, the school is making a mistake.
PS
The girl is making this an issue by taking this to the New York Times
WHATEVER HAPPENED TO SHAME?....and I don’t mean shame as in pregnancy...
..I mean shame in taking it to the Times!
kid go back and read my comments...
where did I say that he was for sure ???
and where did the article say that he wasn’t ???
SIGH
So, you too are arguing facts not in evidence.
And she stayed in school. Good for her.
People used to worry about the effect that it would have as it sets an example for those who are younger.
Such a straw man to try and make your point......
My daughter talks about quite a few abortions at her Christian high school.
Sad situation.
Awful decision. Excluding and shaming someone when they need support the most...
“WHATEVER HAPPENED TO SHAME?”
Guenevere I’ve got the be the Queen Pro life poster here on FR and I’ve wondered that in society!!!
They have now shame and what is worse they hold abortion over our heads like the sword of Damocles. As long as abortion/abortion pills are out there really don’t know what to do but give into liberal demands that they not be “shamed” because of the act they did.
No I don’t think it’s correct but am forced to take the lesser of two evils in this. Either she’s allowed to graduate or the girl(s) after her ends up in an abortion clinic. That will be the message Planned Parenthood will taunt. Can hear it now “those evil Christians are taking rights away from you but come down to our clinic we will help you. No one will ever know”. Thing is, no one will know but the clinic, the girl and God.
The girl said they guy who knocked her up does not attend the same school she does.
I worked at a Christian school in Hong Kong for many years and it had a policy like this. There were two students there, a boy and a girl that had been best friends since the 2nd grade. They told their parents they wanted to get married as soon as they graduated high-school.
The parents absolutely refused and said they must wait until after both had obtained graduate degrees and they had what the Chinese call the “4 C’s” which are a condo, a car, credit cards and a career.
This couple decided to force the matter and started having sex for the express purpose of the girl getting pregnant so that they could (1) get married and (2) embarrasses their parents (both fathers were Protestant pastors)
They now have 5 kids and are still married.
Pregnancy shouldn’t be punished, fornication should.
Who will never know how many girls from this school may
have chosen the abortion route rather than face the same
consequences as this young lady? How many in the future?
I am not passing judgment on the adult decision makers
but I hope they have thought and prayed about it.
Making up facts to fit your agenda? Bearing a bit of false witness against the school? Are you one of those Dispys that throws out the Old Testament and its pesky 10 commandments?
Every student signs a morality contract at Christian schools are are expected to live up to it. She made a mistake, but did the right thing and will be rewarded.
Why have rules for anything?
Many of you are shaming the school for trying to abide by Godly principles
No one is throwing this girl on to the street.....or ready to stone her,
But some of you respond as if they did
Let’s all just pick and choose which rules we want to obey.
They didn’t take her diploma away from her, which she had earned. They just took her social privileges (and very mild ones at that) away to show that there are consequences to immoral behavior.
