[Vanity]Defending Pontius Pilate
5/11/2017 | Stormprepper

Posted on 05/11/2017 6:24:05 PM PDT by StormPrepper

In my humble opinion Pontius Pilate was not only NOT evil but he will probably be saved at the judgment. He certainly had the potential to be a very good man.

The Jews at the time of Christ were the only people in the history of mankind that were so wicked they would crucify their own God.

This fact plays into God's plan for our salvation. Jesus would come to earth, gain a physical body, learn through mortal experiences pain, anquish, temptation, and joy. He would overcome all things, suffer to pay the price for sin, then His body would be put to death, and He would over come death and take His body up again. The first of Heavenly Father's children to do so.

But in order to be put to death, Jesus would have to face the wrath of the Jews. However, they were restrained by the law and could not themselves kill Jesus. They had to be taken before the Roman authority.

That authority being Pontius Pilate. Pontius Pilate was also restrained by the law, he couldn't refuse the demand of the Jews to execute Jesus. Even though, he himself judged Jesus to be innocent.

He washed his hands of the affair wanting no part of it.

This is the reason why Jesus didn't teach the Romans about his divinity nor did they witness any miracles. Pontius Pilate didn't know who He was. And Jesus didn't tell him He was the Son of God nor did He perform any miracles in front of Pilate.

Had Jesus shown Pontius Pilate His divinity as He had the Jews, Pilate would never have given the order to crucify Jesus. And that was not the plan of God.

In the end, Jesus pleaded with His Father to forgive the Romans for their part in His death. The truth had been purposely with-held from them.

There is an argument to be made for Pontius Pilate, so don't be too quick to judge him.

Ahem! Jews appealed to Pilate to punish Jesus but it was the Romans that crucified Jesus; albeit Pilate argued for Jesus to be spared execution.

There is a fake 29th chapter of ACTS that claims PAUL went to Spain and England, then traveled overland to Switzerland where he saw Lake Lucerne, where “Pilate drowned himself”, transformed into the shape of a crucifix.
I personally don’t believe it until more proof is found.

If you look at a view from above Lake Lucerne does look similar to a crucifix.

Having grown up in a pagan religion where the gods routinely assumed human form Pilate would likely have been very superstitious about killing one of them- which could explain his reticence to order Jesus’ execution and his unwillingness to accept blame for it. If he had been truly cynical and corrupt he would have easily ordered Jesus’ execution without a second thought.

And in the end Jesus was going to be crucified in order to fulfill his role no matter what Pilate did. When Peter tried to prevent it Jesus told him “get thee behind me Satan”. The outcome was already preordained.

It all happened exactly as it was meant to. Jesus was the final sacrificial lamb, fulfilling prophecy and symbolized by all the Jewish temple sacrifices made in the entire history of the Jewish people. In a miraculous convergence of events, ALL of humanity rejected him and brought about the circumstances that sent Jesus to the cross. The Jews abandoned him, the Romans (gentiles) abandoned him, his disciples abandoned him, and finally, for a brief time, he was abandoned by his Father and the Holy Spirit. It had to be so, else the ultimate sacrifice for sin would not have been made, and we would all be lost.

Humanity as a whole was in need of salvation, and humanity, fallen, blind, sinful and lost, ensured that he would accomplish what he came to do. God knew exactly how humanity would receive him and he used that knowledge to turn the tables and make salvation possible. Very deep stuff actually.

Nothing diminishes Gods Kingdom....

Thanks for the clarification.

Regarding Pilate and Judas, we are not their judges. I believe you're correct in saying that history does not record their conversion.

Without Christ as our advocate, we will find ourselves in perdition.

Salvation is available to every man through the work of Jesus Christ. The work is that Jesus died in our place and by doing so paid for our sins reconciling us to the Father and opening the door to heaven.

Every man is free to accept or reject Jesus the Christ as personal Savior/Redeemer. We will be judged by our choice.

Pilate had the authority and power to exonerate and save Christ - but he did not. Rome (Gentiles) and Jewish Sanhedrin were complicit in bringing about Christ's Crucifixion. Sinful men (Jews and Gentiles) were complicit in bringing about Christ's Crucifixion.

Jesus speaking to Pilate in John 19:11 - "You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin."

Notice, Jesus does not exonerate Pilate or say Pilate is without sin. Jesus points out that the one who handed him over has the "greater" sin. Is Jesus speaking of Judas as "the one" or the Sanhedrin? I think both since Judas conspired with the Sanhedrin to betray Christ.

Mormonism bring out the best in people!

The early ones were SO 'christian' that they claimed some sins were even too bad for Christ's blood to atone for; the perp's OWN blood must be shed!

The mormon plan of salvation is false.

I'm wounded to the CORE!!

How can you SAY this??

All you have to DO is...

Here is MORMONism's own creed:

Articles of Faith

The Articles of Faith outline 13 basic points of belief of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Prophet Joseph Smith first wrote them in a letter to John Wentworth, a newspaper editor,
in response to Mr. Wentworth's request to know what members of the Church believed.
They were subsequently published in Church periodicals.
They are now regarded as scripture and included in the Pearl of Great Price.

THE ARTICLES OF FAITH
OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
History of the Church, Vol. 4, pp. 535—541

  1. We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
  2. We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression.
  3. We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
  4. We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
  5. We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.
  6. We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
  7. We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.
  8. We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
  9. We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
  10. We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.
  11. We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
  12. We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
  13. We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

Joseph Smith

In another part of the bible it states that Judas was disemboweled. So he had help committing suicide apparently. imo

Not necessarily.

There is no TIME mentioned in the death of Judas.

He could have hung there for a long, LONG time 'til he disintegrated.

Of course, buzzards picking at ya might tend to accelerate the process.

Matthew 27:3-10   New International Version (NIV)

When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders. “I have sinned,” he said, “for I have betrayed innocent blood.”

“What is that to us?” they replied. “That’s your responsibility.”

So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.

The chief priests picked up the coins and said, “It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money.” So they decided to use the money to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners. That is why it has been called the Field of Blood to this day. Then what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled: “They took the thirty pieces of silver, the price set on him by the people of Israel, 10 and they used them to buy the potter’s field, as the Lord commanded me.”[a]

Acts 1:18-19    New International Version (NIV)

18 (With the payment he received for his wickedness, Judas bought a field; there he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out. 19 Everyone in Jerusalem heard about this, so they called that field in their language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.)

Similar to Trump's statement: Mexico will pay for it??

And you KNOW this how?

Judas Didn’t Repent

When Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver, he was very remorseful and deeply regretted what he had done, yet there is no record of him asking for forgiveness or of his repenting.

And 'no record' does NOT 'confirm' that it never happened.
