Let go let Hod is a slogan used to remind oneself that I am not in charge. I can do my best at what is in front of me. I have no control over outcome
This author wants to treat short hand for theology. How special of him

The author is with the Gospel Coalition. While many of their writers are quite good, some seem to enjoy erecting Evangelical “straw men” to knock down. This writer picks, as you said, Christian “short-hand” expressions and crushes them beneath a theological sledge hammer.

Then I will leave you with an encouraging verse. It has gotten me through tough times.

The author is a self-righteous boob. All of these phrases are appropriate in the right situation.

It was OK. I was taught not to mock another’s deities.:o)
YOUR eyes can’t be as old as my 70 yr. old ones; nor can
you have fatter fingers than mine. (I make lots of typos;
but I’m a smartypants & pick on fellow Freepers just to keep
them humble. :o)

I don’t think that the author is saying they are absolutely inappropriate. I understand him as explaining WHY they might NOT ALWAYS be appropriate.

The good news is not that God wont give us more than we can handle; its that he wont give us more than he can handle. I think where people get that from is what God HAS promised us:
No trial has overtaken you that is not faced by others. And God is faithful: He will not let you be tried beyond what you are able to bear, but with the trial will also provide a way out so that you may be able to endure it. (I Cor. 10:13)

Sniff.... I really miss our cardinals. Haven't seen a one yet here in Florida. In NC we had a few generations of them!
