6 False Teachings Bringing Deceptive Darkness Into the Church
CharismaNews ^ | Feb 8,2017

Since that very moment in the Garden of Eden when a single bite shattered the harmony of the world, man has tried to make his own way, be his own master, and set up his own kingdom. It's nothing new.

Nevertheless, if we want to be faithful followers of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in this day and age, we must be alert and ready to boldly stand against the spirit of the age that seeks to modify the message of Christ, undermine His power to set us free from sin, repaint Christ's picture to make Him more acceptable to a wayward generation and rewrite the gospel to remove the offense of the cross.

For the last 2,000 years, the church has been plagued with heresy after heresy seeking to tame the gospel, and today is no different. Here are just a few of the popular beliefs in our current culture that threaten to infiltrate the church:

Universalism

The New Age Movement

Legalism

The Emerging Church

Hyper Grace

Darkness?  What darkness?  Somebody turn on the lights!

...Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch?  He belongs to a far-left church that embraces marriage redefinition, gun control, and the theory of man-caused global warming.

He belongs to St. John's Episcopal Church in Boulder, Colo., the Episcopal diocese of Colorado confirmed on Wednesday. Church bulletins show that the judge has been an usher three times in recent months. His wife Louise frequently leads the intercessory prayer and reads the weekly Scripture at Sunday services, and his daughters assist in ceremonial duties during church services as acolytes.

The first word that St. John's uses to describe itself on its website and Facebook page is "inclusive," and the church is led by a female rector. On its website, the church encourages members to write letters to Congress asking for actions addressing climate change.

That's not all.  Its website also calls for members to lobby their congressmen for more gun control.

And more:

Rev. Susan Springer has said she is pro-gay marriage and offers blessings to same-sex couples

The church's Rev. Ted Howard also signed a letter slamming the 'disrespectful rhetoric' directed at Islam as Trump floated a ban on Muslim immigrants[.] ...

My bad.

That was my mistake.

There were six and I thought I had them right.

Not thinking to clearly today. I have a nasty head cold.

>> We preach Christ. We reinforce biblical doctrine, clinging to the highest authority—the Word of God.

John 1:1-5

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.

3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understooda it.

NIV

Matt 19:4-6

4 "Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female,'a 5 and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'?b 6 So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."

NIV

John 14:24

24 He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.

NIV

Unfortunately, the NIV itself is a product of 19th Century liberal theology that switched the underlying texts those still rejected by fundamental Biblicists, particularly the synthetic “critical” eclectic revision of Brooke Foss Westcott and Fenton John Anthony Hort. That’s the seventh downfall of modern “Christianity,” IMHO.

I have several versions of the bible, and even more on my phone as well as many on the internet, not to mention the greek and hebrew lexicons.

I have no favorite bible, but my absolute least favorite is the KJV. It’s not that I think it is heretical, per se, but it is in a language that people are not familiar with.

About two years ago we were in our local southern baptist church (which is all KJV) and the preacher read a verse. I had it on my phone (KJV) and my wife was reading it in her hard copy (NIV). When the pastor explained what the verse actually means, he quoted, WORD FOR WORD, what was written in her NIV bible.

That was pretty funny. :)

I hate spending half the time reading the KJV and the other half translating it into English. It’s a lot more efficient, and accurate, to focus on what the original greek and hebrew mean in the language we actually speak, than to have to translate every line. It’s worse than just confusing. It can mess up the whole lesson.

And the KJV has a lot of added scripture that was probably inserted by scribes that meant well, but still...

The version is really irrelevant because we have the actual Greek and Hebrew for reference.

Who did "fundamental Biblicists" confuse Nebuchadnezzar (the reconciled) with again?

Isa 14:12

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

KJV

Context matters.

Dan 4:33-37

33 The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.

34 And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:

35 And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?

36 At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me.

37 Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.

KJV

Oops!

Starting just after I left my ELCA parish to become Orthodox, “married” “gays” moved into it, followed by a “trans” who is a candidate for Lutheran ordination. The pastor has also been cozying up to islam for a long time. (Once upon a time, that same parish had been Missouri Synod.)

Should Neil Gorsuch and his family enter the Orthodox Catechumenate? You betcha!!!! There are several great Orthodox parishes in the DC area, too!!!

Do you have examples or are you referring to the Alexandrian texts? If the Alexandrian texts, they have been shown to be butchered texts of the Gnostics that the New Testament warned about. As we now have older text fragments of the parts that they cut out.

22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.

I was discussing this subject with a friend many years ago. I forget the sources of information and haven’t studied the subject since.

It was a real eye opener at the time, though. The internet is great for this kind of stuff.

There are different Bible versions, online and offline including I think an updated version of the KJV.

I am guessing it was the work of Wescott and Hort, The leaned heavily on the Alexandrian texts, which were at the time the oldest manuscripts available. Since that time, older manuscript fragments have been found. The older fragments show the Alexandrian texts to be the Gnostic texts as warned about in he New Testament.

Most modern bible translations will show, for example, a footnote that says "not found in the two most ancient manuscripts." Check out the last 11-12 verses of the gospel according to Mark. Wescott and Hort, while bible "scholars", did not believe in the inspiration of the bible themselves. Their work has had a great detrimental impact on the church. And we actually have the evidence to prove that the Alexandrian texts are, in fact, not the best texts. As they were written by the Gnostics. (It is also a matter of history that the Gnostics were centered in Alexandria. Suprise, Suprise.)

The oops is on you. Isaiah preceded Daniel by at least a hundred years, and Lucifer's fall was long before Isaiah. Lucifer fell from God's heaven to the earthly sphere, Not Nebuchadnezzar.

Where did you get your theology? It's not Biblical. And what does your theory have to do with NIV vs AV?

Isaiah 14:12

Isaiah 14:12

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

[O Lucifer, son of the morning] The Versions in general agree in this translation, and render heeyleel as signifying Lucifer, phosphoros, the morning star, whether Jupiter or Venus; as these are both bringers of the morning light, or morning stars, annually in their turn. And although the context speaks explicitly concerning Nebuchadnezzar, yet this has been, I know not why, applied to the chief of the fallen angels, who is most incongruously denominated Lucifer, (the bringer of light!) an epithet as common to him as those of Satan and Devil. That the Holy Spirit by his prophets should call this arch-enemy of God and man the light-bringer, would be strange indeed. But the truth is, the text speaks nothing at all concerning Satan nor his fall, nor the occasion of that fall, which many divines have with great confidence deduced from this text. O how necessary it is to understand the literal meaning of Scripture, that preposterous comments may be prevented! Besides, I doubt much whether our translation be correct. Heeyleel, which we translate Lucifer, comes from yaalal, yell, howl, or shriek, and should be translated, "Howl, son of the morning;" and so the Syriac has understood it; and for this meaning Michaelis contends: see his reasons in Parkhurst, under haalal.
