well, according to wikipedia, he was born in 1923.
he says his first homosexual experience was when he was 40: "I was forty years old when I had my first sexual encounter with a man"
the article seems to say he was 'laicized' 4 years after this initial homosexual experience: "And in 1967, the same paper quoted the now-laicized priest"
so, no, it seems to have started well before he 'quit'
