Is there going to be some sort of voting like in the UN ? Where is the list of participating countries ?
God is holding all this back. When He removes His restraining Spirit, then these things can transpire.
However, “that day” STILL will not happen until the list above happens first.

It could be destroyed in the Psalm 83 War, which I believe is imminent.
It could be destroyed during the time popularly known as The Day of the Lord, which I believe begins sometime early in the year 2020.
In my opinion, the most conservative constraint on the timing of the destruction of Damascus is that it takes place before the year 2022.

“Us” is an assumption rather than a part of that scripture, however, it is a decent assumption.

I'm not too sure which date works for the generation thing, because:
On Nov. 29, 1947, the United Nations General Assembly passed resolution 181 allowing for the formation of the state of Israel.
On May 14, 1948, in Tel Aviv, Jewish Agency Chairman David Ben-Gurion proclaims the State of Israel.
On May 11, 1949 Resolution 273 admitted Israel to UN membership as a "peace-loving country".
So I'm not too sure which date works best for the generation thing, but I'm in complete agreement that one of them is significant; perhaps all in some way?
Something that I find fascinating is to take these document numbers and attempt to find some correlation in the Bible. I usually start with the book of Matthew. So resolution 181:

At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.
“If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! Such things must come, but woe to the person through whom they come!
I see a direct correlation between these verses and the little nation of Israel. For one, the entire world will soon be ruled from the little nation of Israel. :)
There is nothing is Scripture that prevents Jesus from showing up tonight to take us home. I just happen to believe we are a few decades away becaue I believe that Luke 14:23 has yet to be fulfilled but I could be wrong but I don't think I am.

The irony is that the "end times" generation started with the laying of the cornerstone of the "end times" house of [prophecy] merchandise.
Forty and six years was this temple in building:

The "students of Bible prophecy" will be caught unawares within their own generation precisely because the end times prophecy teachings have become gospel truth. Everybody knows this, everybody knows that... multiple conflicting theories but all based on the ubiquitous buzzwords and catch phrases popularized by the prophecy teachers.
Maybe, however it is only one of a quite a number of pointers to this period in time being epic, as I believe you would agree?
The generation thing first played out when the second temple was destroyed, just as Yeshua twice predicted it would. The generation, alive at that time, did see its complete destruction.
So, like many, I see the above as a shadow of coming events playing out even now. Yes I read "The Late Great Planet Earth" by Hal Lindsey, multiple times. Some things Hal presented in his book I have a completely different view of, but on the generational thing I happened to agree.
It’s a grand irony. Those selling their prophecy wares about “this generation” ARE that generation. If they checked Jesus’ use of the word ‘generation’, they wouldn’t like it.

I would suggest you use a concordance for your study try words like forever and everlasting. Here are just a few verses that tell us that there are divine purposes for Israel.

1 Chronicles 16:17-18
As we see in Romans 11:25-26 God’s grace will indeed be poured out on Israel again, so the lesson learned is God’s plan is higher than ours like it or not.
