That was probably part of it. I understand there still may be a lot of “great deep” left.

BTW, I saw the Ark Encounter a couple of weeks ago. It was much more than I expected. It was really good.

There may exceptions. And given the folding and redeposition this article allows must have taken place, there exceptions hardly destroy the rule. There may even be an exception or two which are difficult to explain. But yes, fossils do correspond to the supposed natural history according to the old-earth hypothesis.

Dinosaurs, as a general rule, do not exist significantly above the K-T boundary, and certainly none exist below the P-K boundary. The most ancient rocks show no trace of skeletons, and somewhat less ancient rocks (150 million years!) show no trace of animals on land.

And to be clear, by “above” and “below,” I do not mean to say that no dinosaur exists at a higher elevation than larger mammals; I mean in higher and lower layers, which this theory acknowledges are pushed up and down by natural forces.

The waves may toss and roar, but they can never pass the boundaries I set.

And since He is God, He could change the boundaries at will. But He did not, because He promised not to do so.

Then You set a firm boundary for the seas, so they would never again cover the earth.

And an atmospheric pressure of millions of times the present pressure.

"Millions"??

That's a magnitude of atmosphere that dwarfs Venus.

I actually read this book back in 1984 or so:

http://www.creationism.org/patten/PattenBiblFlood/

I talked with the author. He said he changed his opinion since he wrote the book regarding what large planet probably came nearby.

I found it very interesting when looking at Neap tides. It is pretty overwhelming to think of the power of the universe in comparison to the paltry power of mankind and the ability to even comprehend it.

my favorite hypothesis is that most of the water was subterranean prior to the great flood. Perhaps water was available from wells and springs but not rain. Then something happened to release this water.
This would explain the rainbow 1st occurrence as well.

The better question is... Where did all the water come from?

There were actually 2 sources:

Prior to the flood, an atmospheric layer of water existed above the breathable air on the surface, and is referred to in the bible as the “firmament”. This layer of water provided extra protection to the earth from the sun, and resulted in much higher levels of oxygen at that time. It also explains why dinosaurs thrived then despite their enormous size... Larger dinosaurs simply could not cope with the lower levels of oxygen after the firmament failed and fell to earth, so if the flood failed to kill them, the lack of oxygen rich air did. (but it didn’t kill all of them... only the largest ones)

The bible also speaks of vast oceans below the surface of the earth which were opened at the same time the firmament fell. The best theory and explanation I’ve heard of what happened was that a massive asteroid bombardment of the earth took place (multiple large hits) which not only disrupted the firmament, but poked holes in the earth’s crust, releasing the waters from underneath.... The passage of Nibiru (planet x) is offered as one possible source of the asteroids.

Over time, water pressure on the surface squeezed this water back under the surface until a new equilibrium was reached where the oceans above the surface were much larger than before.

My point is this... the bible speaks of VAST bodies of water below the surface which DWARFS the amount of water present in the oceans we see on the surface. We are seeing geological evidence of this today.

This bit about land getting pushed up doesn’t hold water for me.

The earth is also full of under water aquifers. Some of the water came from ‘’the deep’’ and then went back there.

Why scientific explanations for things of ‘faith’? Because when it comes to the things of the one true God in all the earth, faith isn’t irrational. Faith is the EVIDENCE of things not seen. There is EVIDENCE of a flood we haven’t seen. Enacted by a God we usually don’t see, but he leaves evidence in the earth, all creation, and in the witness of men and writings.

It’s the interpretation of that evidence that can get a bit messed up. Let’s say that God made several variations of an animal, each with a different purpose, but containing similarities with one like it. Man comes along and in his pride and arrogance with his unbelief, decides to call it...evolution.

Science isn’t always wrong, but men frequently are. Some scientists demand that we take their word on faith, too!

Maybe the earth was smaller in the past than it is now. Is that possible? In My opinion, it’s possible.

Consider the possibility:

Yes. Most definitely. It would make the atmosphere of Venus look like a thin wisp.

But, even still, I’m correcting that comment: Millions of millibars, not bars... which would be thousands of times current atmospheric pressure, not millions.

(1 bar = 1,000 millibars = approx. 1 atmosphere.)

The extreme age of the universe, it's immensity of size, and all that proceeded the creation of man does not diminish the majesty of God who is eternal and beyond time.

Psalm 90:2 tells us about God’s eternality: “Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” Since we humans measure everything in time, it is very hard for us to conceive of something that had no beginning and has always been, and which will continue forever. However, the Bible does not try to prove God’s existence or His eternality, but simply begins with the statement “In the beginning God…” (Genesis 1:1), indicating that at the beginning of recorded time, God was already in existence. From duration stretching backward without limit to duration stretching forward without limit, from eternal ages to eternal ages, God was and is forever. What is 10 billion or a trillion years to God?

The truth of God is revealed not only in the Bible but also in the nature of his creation. As any good father would expect and encourage his children to learn from what they experience and discover scientific advance are also revelations of the nature of God. I wish creationist would quit trying to reduce God to a petty child demigod playing with toys in a 6000 year-year old sandbox. Using our God-given intellect and senses to study the earth and the basic nature are part of God's plan who, as our father, wishes us to grow and learn, as an good father would want.

I imagine that if man ever does voyage to the “end” of the universe we will find the endless eternal majesty of God. Also, Satan did not pepper the world with fossils to deceive us. His power is limited to using lies to deceive us into evil where we harm ourselves and others. He cannot change the nature and fabric of God's creation or diminish it.
