The actual number of claimed pieces of the True Cross were meticulously measured by a French scientist.

They summed up (IIRC) to about 2/3 of a cross.

That was satire, and meaningless. Several accurate inventories have been done and there is only enough wood in all of the known relics to account for approximately 2/3rds of the patibulum, the cross piece.
