Acclaimed Atheist Poet Becomes Catholic: 'My Tears Just Stopped' By Mark Judge | November 30, 2016
If youre there, you have to help me. Those are the words that poet Sally Read said to an icon of Jesus in 2010. Read, a British poet and atheist, had stopped into a church in Santa Marinella, Italy. She felt burdened. Her young daughter was having health issues. Her husband Fabio was enduring some stress at work. There was this incredible experience where this presence almost came down, and my tears just stopped, just dried, Read tells CNSNews.com. I felt almost physically carried up. It was as if someone walked into the room. I knew this person. I knew that I was a Christian.
Up to that point Read, now 46, had been an atheist. I was brought up an atheist, Read notes in her just-published memoir, Nights Bright Darkness: A Modern Conversion Story. At ten I could tell you that religion was the opiate of the masses; it was [driven] into me to never kneel before anyone or anything
As a young woman I could quote Christopher Hitchens and enough of the Bible to scoff at. Read was born in 1971 and raised in Suffolk, England. As a young woman she worked as a nurse in a psychiatric hospital and became a critically acclaimed poet, winning the Eric Gregory Award in 2001.

Then why the remark about hoping she wasn’t just joining a church? Do you make this same comment every time you hear about someone leaving atheism and coming to Christ?
We disagree. But thanks for posting the welcome sign. Christ entrusted the Church to forgive sinners in His name. This is a belief held by the early Church fathers, saints, theologians and scholars for over two millennia.
Matthew 16:19 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
“Then why the remark about hoping she wasnt just joining a church? Do you make this same comment every time you hear about someone leaving atheism and coming to Christ?”
ABSOLUTELY. For the identical reason. There is one way to have eternal life. It is found only in Christ, as Scripture declares.
We watched “The Song of Bernadette” a few weeks ago.
It’s a beautiful movie.
LOL. Sure you do. Whatever. LOL.
“...what made her pick up St. John of the Cross. Kind of an unusual saints writings to start with.”
+
Maybe because he, like her, is a poet.
“LOL. Sure you do. Whatever. LOL.”
You needn’t believe me. That’s your call. Why don’t you post a thread and watch FRamigo?
*she
She did.
Missed that part of the article. Will you post the quote where she speaks of coming to saving faith in Christ? Thanks.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, strength...
I knew this person. I knew that I was a Christian.
John 10: 27My sheep hear My voice; I know them, and they follow Me. 28I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them out of My hand.
Not all who say, "Lord, Lord, ..."
Being in a garage doesn't make you a car - even if you "know" you are a car.
May it be true that this dear soul has entrusted herself to Christ alone for eternal life.
I have more confidence in the promises of Christ than many do.
Mt 10:42 “And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is My disciple, truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward.”
Context, dear friend, context. Christ was sending out His 12 Apostles during their time on earth.
This has nothing to do with eternal life, which I've referenced as my ardent wish for this dear soul we are speaking about. Eternal life comes only through entrusting ourselves to His indescribable gift of sacrifice.
Ro 10:13
Context FRamigo.
11 As Scripture says, Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.[a] 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentilethe same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.[b]
14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15 And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news![c]
Again, entrusting oneself to Him saves.
So now you are agreeingvwith me. :?)
Faith + nothing
Yes. As I’ve stated since my first post.
As have I
