Pope Warns Trump: Do Not Back Away from UN Climate Pact – Pope Declares ‘Crisis of Climatic Change’

Pope Francis has issued a climate change challenge directly to President Elect Trump. The Pope, in thinly veiled speech, urged Trump not to withdraw the U.S. from the United Nations Paris agreement reached in 2015. The UN treaty has been said by critics to be “history’s most expensive treaty’,” with a “cost of between $1 trillion and $2 trillion annually.”

Pope Francis warned of the “crisis of climate change.” “The ‘distraction’ or delay in implementing global agreements on the environment shows that politics has become submissive to a technology and economy which seek profit above all else,” Francis said, in what Reuters described as “a message that looked to be squarely aimed at” Trump.

Trump pledged to pull the U.S. out of the UN Paris climate agreement and defund and withdraw from the UN climate process.

WTF is the Pope doing blaming mankind for the weather? Does he think man is more powerful than God now?

Feels pretty good, shaking a crooked index finger at mention of Trump’s name, and making idle threats from the safety of the Vatican.

Catholic as well, and I completely agree. This pope is pushing hard to piss off the traditionally faithful.

This is indeed the proper response. On such matters, the Pope does not speak as Vicar of Christ.

If he does, will he go to Hell, Francis?

However, I don’t think he should presume to tell Trump what to do in political matters.

Well, he can, just as Pius XI definitely pointed one of his documents at Hitler (it was released in German first, just so the message wasn't lost). But the Pope's competency on matters of Faith and morals does not extend to understanding climatology. It is doubtful he has read the Treaty, and he certainly does not have the natural ability to "discern" the effects of following it or not following it.

There is nothing in his statements that makes a coherent appeal to Natural Law, authoritative Church teaching, Scripture or Moral Tradition. Since a statement can have no more authority than that which is asserted in it, and he makes no assertion on anything other than his own, generally self-contradictory opinion, it is of no count.

And I am a Catholic, and sometimes God lets these these happen for our own good, a good we may not see for 100 years.

Who the heck is this two-bit Argentinian Marxist to be “warning” anybody about anything? Besides, doesn’t he have a Church to destroy?

Well, a pope about a 165 years ago, who was in danger of losing control not only Italy, but even over the Vatican, wanted people to listen to him and obey, so he declared that the Pope’s opinions are infallible. Seems like a big totalitarian racket these top Roman Catholics guys have going. Seems like the Pope is a Marxist parrot.

Hey Pope, STFU and mind your own business.

As a born again Christian I have zero respect for the papacy or the catholic church. Sorry in advance if that hurts anyone’s feelings here.

I am a Catholic, and I don’t blame you. This pope is the first in my lifetime for whom I have lost respect. I just do not understand why he says the things he does.
