Turkey Heads Toward Radical Islamic Dictatorship
The National Catholic Register ^ | 8/10/16 | Victor Gaetan

NEWS ANALYSIS: Post-coup actions turn precarious for Christians, and potentially fatal for a vision of a civil Islam.

In Turkey, a failed military coup against President Recep Erdoğan on July 15, squelched in about six hours, has triggered a fierce government response: mass civilian arrests, declaration of a state of emergency giving Erdoğan authoritarian power for at least three months and a hateful atmosphere of accusation that puts Christians at risk.

As a longtime American ally, a member of NATO since 1952 and a country where important American military assets are located, Turkey’s stability has special significance for the U.S. government, NATO and the world.

Although the Holy See has not commented at length, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Holy See’s secretary of state, told Rome Reports, “These are not positive developments. They are a source of concern for everyone.”

It would seem that there are three aspects that are particularly worrisome. President Erdoğan is actively radicalizing Turkish society — a place where Christians already exist precariously — and he is scapegoating Hizmet, a moderate Islamic movement that has cultivated positive relations with the Catholic Church. In the process, his government is flattening a pluralistic country that, just four years ago, was still widely described as a model of moderation and economic success.

Overnight Violence; Long-Term Control

The coup attempt was so sloppy, the government’s counterpunch was so comprehensive, and Erdoğan so quickly consolidated authority by assuming near-dictatorial powers — power he has been steadily accumulating since his political party, Justice and Development (AKP), came to power in 2002 — that some analysts raised the possibility that the coup might have been a hoax.

Speaking to the Register on background, a U.S. government official who specializes in the region confirmed the insurrection was indeed an anti-Erdoğan....

"He also activated the Religious Affairs Department (Diyanet) to contact via text message the country’s Muslim imams, who are all employees of the Turkish government. Mobilizing through 85,000 mosques using a special prayer usually associated with funerals and war, Turkey’s 150,000 imams rallied people on behalf of the president across the country."

The three-headed snake:

1. Arabo-Islamic Supremacists as lead by Saudi Arabia,
2. Perso-Islamic Supremacists as lead by Iran, and
3. Turko-Islamic Supremacists as lead by Turkey

The West seems to favor the Arabo-Islamic Supremacists over Perso-Islamic Supremacists. Russia is in bed with the Perso-Islamic Supremacists.

The Turko-Islamic Supremacists try to play all sides, being treacherous Turko-Mongols they are. They are also the most intelligent warriors. They have the West under their grip and now Russia is falling into their trap.

Hello, hello, Islam is NOT democratic.
To expect such is the longing of fools.

Turkey can become nothing but a dictatorship.

This concerns me about Trump. Hopefully he’ll get up to speed on this.

from the link.

I think it was a put up job by Erdogan just to consolodate power. He's a monster and his kid is worse. His kid bilal sells petroleum owned by Isis.

.....................

Over 40 generals are among some 3,000 putschists arrested. One of them is a four-star general who commands the second army responsible for the regions next to Syria and Iraq. Dozens of brigadiers and major generals commanding mainly combat troops of land forces, gendarmerie units fighting Kurdish insurgents, and combat units of the navy and air force can hardly be classified as Gulenists.

Another four-star general — a commander of the third army — was also arrested yesterday. The first army commander, who is in charge of defending Istanbul and had declared his allegiance to the government on the night of the coup, asked Erdogan to come to Istanbul where his safety would be assured, thereby playing a decisive role in the collapse of the attempt.

Twenty-four hours had not passed after the collapse of the coup attempt when 140 judges — judges of the Court of Appeals and 48 judges of the Council of State, two of the highest judiciary institutions — were taken into custody. Summarily purged from the judiciary apparatus were another 2,475 judges. A member of the Constitutional Court, the highest institution of the judiciary, was arrested and charged with association with the putschists.

The swiftness and scope of the action of the executive branch was remarkable. It gave the impression that Erdogan and the government were prepared for a coup attempt and had ample intelligence as to who in the state system would be associated with it.

Looking at the 2,839 military personnel under arrest, including scores of generals who commanded the combat units of a NATO army, it is quite bizarre that no security bureaucracy from the military intelligence to the National Intelligence Organization, the General Directorate of Security and Special Forces Command had a clue that a coup was being hatched at such a magnitude.

Such matters awaiting convincing answers naturally aroused conspiracy theories. A particular interesting one is this: "The way you launch a coup is pretty straightforward. First you grab the leader, then the media outlets, then you exhibit the humiliated leader in the media.

Instead, these people decided to throw the coup while Erdogan was on vacation and apparently didn’t even attempt to secure him. By the time the coup began, he was already taken to a secret location. Then the whole thing went straight to hell very quickly.

The coup told people to go home, while Erdogan told his people to go to the streets. So the coup supporters were at home, while the Erdogan supporters were out on the streets.

The coup also reportedly fired on civilians, which is also something you definitely do not want to do. That makes even people who were inclined to support it turn against it.

In short, the whole thing could not have been better arranged for Erdogan himself, who now looks like a hero of the people.

As such, it seems to me the most likely possibility is that Erdogan — presumably with the blessing of Western forces — worked with some of his own people in the military to arrange a coup hoax."

In this photo provided by the Presidential Press Service, Pope Francis, left, exchanges gifts with Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Presidential Palace in Ankara, Turkey, Friday, Nov. 28, 2014. Under heavy security measures Pope Francis arrived in Turkey for a three-day visit and he met with Erdogan at his huge new palace on once-protected farm land and forest in Ankara, becoming the first foreign dignitary to be hosted at the lavish, 1000-room complex.
