The Bible has a lot to say about the effect your words have on you. And one effect your words have on you is they have an effect on your body. In James 3:2-4 the Bible says some amazing things about the effect your words have on your body. In verse 3 it talks about how we put bits in a horse's mouth to control his body, he's making a comparison of the bit to your tongue. So, he's saying your tongue can be used to control the body like a bit in a horse's mouth controls his body, it controls the direction he goes. And in verse 4 it talks about how a ship is controlled by a very small helm wherever the governor listeth inspite of fierce winds. In that verse you are the governor, your tongue in the helm, the ship is your body, and the fierce winds are anything that comes against your body. Notice, you are in control of your ship by your tongue.
Understand your body is a vehical for your spirit, it's how you make contact with this physical world, but the body is not the real you. The real you is a spirit that God has given authority over your body. If you look in Genesis chapter 1:26-28 you see that God gave man dominion over all the earth which includes your body. Because in Genesis 2:7 it says that God formed man's body out of the dust of the earth. God has given you(spirit you) authority over your body, but you have to take authority and stay in authority. That's why in 1Corinthians 9:27 Paul says, "But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection." He could only do that because God had already given him dominion over his flesh. So, by faith take authority over your flesh and stay in authority over your flesh with your words
Struggle with my tongue at times as it is the vent from which I release my frustration and stress. What vents to the rest of you use to achieve a similar result and help bring down the otherwise escalating blood pressure?
Sometimes the best thing to say is “dear Lord help me”
What works best for me is to say prayers aloud in the morning and always include "God bless this day." He usually goes along with that.

That is simply "word of faith/prosperity preaching" nonsense. What James is speaking about is controlling the tongue, the last member to be tamed, and is saying is that if and once you are finally able to control the organ of the tongue, then only then can you say you are able to control all of the body, and not just most of it.
For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also [the word for which, "kai" is translated "even" 108 times in the KJV] to bridle the whole body. (James 3:2)
For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. (James 3:7-8)
Context is everything and the enemy of those who make up their own theology.

What it is simply saying is that people can not control their tonuge.
I will tell myself that i am going to keep my mouth shut and not get into that same old argument, i am making some progress but it is a hard battle.
We can control horses and even ships but we have a hell of a time controlling our tonuge.
