Integrity Is Devoted to Prayer

“Now when Daniel knew that the document was signed, he entered his house (now in his roof chamber he had windows open toward Jerusalem); and he continued kneeling on his knees three times a day, praying and giving thanks before his God, as he had been doing previously. Then these men came by agreement and found Daniel making petition and supplication before his God” (Daniel 6:10-11).

There is a direct link between prayer and integrity.

It is no coincidence that those whom God uses most effectively are those who are most fervent in prayer. David, for example, called upon the Lord in the morning, at noon, and at night, and the Lord heard his prayers (Ps. 55:17). Daniel followed the same pattern, praying three times a day from his roof chamber, where he could look out above the rooftops of Babylon toward Jerusalem.

Houses in Babylon often had latticework over their windows to allow ventilation, and Daniel would be visible through that latticework as he faced Jerusalem, prayed for its restoration, and gave thanks to God. He knew that Darius had issued a decree making it illegal to pray and that violating the decree would give his enemies opportunity to accuse him, but he would not forsake prayer or compromise his convictions. He would continue to call upon the Lord and leave any consequences to Him.

That was a bold decision for Daniel to make, especially in light of the punishment he would face. Would you be as bold if you knew that your prayers would lead to persecution and possible death? Perhaps more important, are you that committed to prayer even when you aren’t facing persecution? I trust that you are. The seriousness of the spiritual battles you face requires faithfulness in prayer. That’s why Paul said, “Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving” (Col. 4:2).

Suggestions for Prayer

Are you devoted to prayer? If not, begin today to set aside a specific time daily to commune with the Lord and meditate on His Word. You might try keeping a written record of your prayer requests, noting the specific ways God answers them.

For Further Study

What was our Lord’s pattern of prayer, and how did He instruct His disciples to pray (see Luke 5:16; 6:12; Matt. 6:5-13)?

Remarkable parallel between this and how Haman (in Esther’s day) got Ahasuerus to sign his law authorizing the genocide of the Jews.

Studying God’s Word ping

Hello. I do not mean to hijack your thread metmom but I have come across something that troubles me greatly. That is why I include NYer in this ping. This probably needs it's own thread. But I do not know how to do that.

I have been resting (napping) all day and had youtube playing randomly. This video came on: END TIMES - CERN & THE MANDELA EFFECT

It has me greatly alarmed. I have always remembered Isaiah 11:6 as reading And the lion shall lie down with the lamb. But now it seems that verse has changed. I did a Google image search and here is an example. But pay close attention to the verse.

Again, I most humbly apologize for the hijack. Any feedback would help.

I’ll start out by saying that what I know about CERN could be written on a cocktail napkin, with enough space left for the Beatitudes.

But here’s my best guess. It is exceedingly common for people to have mistaken memories. Things like “confabulation” are listed in the DSM-5 as related to psychiatric disorders, but from my observation, you could almost call it a “normal abnormality”. People get all kinds of things mixed up -— names, dates, cause-and-effect, and it’s almost universal.

So I view the whole “Alternate Universes” hypothesis as a daft overreach. We have memory glitches. We are somewhat unreliable narrators of our own stories.

That’s it.

That’s interesting.

Has anyone else run across this?

I don’t recall either way. I know I’ve seen the lion shall lie down with the lamb many times but as for reading that passage in Isaiah, I can’t say as I recall either way.

I can’t imagine that the actual printing in the Bibles already printed has been altered.

And if we are somehow in an alternate dimension, then our memories should be altered as well. IOW, I’d think that we would not know that reality used to be different.

Reminds me of the movie The Lathe of Heaven and some other sci-fi stories I read where people traveled into the past and altered it but the people in the current world were unaware of the fact that the past had been changed as it was their past.

Well I believe your memory will not be altered in this respect if you are a true believer in the Word of God. HE will not let you be deceived.

I checked with a most reliable source—my mother. Her recollection is the same as mine.

She has a hymn book that was her grandmother’s published in 1888. One hymn specifically has the verse of the lion and the lamb.

They had it wrong in 1888? She also checked another hymn book. A hymn written by a man born in 1792. With the verse being the same. He also got it wrong? Then she checked an article written by a Jewish man pertaining to Isaiah. He apparently also got the verse wrong. ?????

Deuteronomy 4:2

“Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.”

Sorry folks, I altered the space-time continuum to get out of a DUI. This lion thing was an unfortunate side effect.

What is a DUI? Is it like an SUV?

No no, it stands for Driving Under the Influence. Better to alter the fabric of reality than to have your license suspended by The Fuzz.

I think the idea of "the lion will lay down with the lamb" is merely a misquote of the passage from Isaiah 11:6. It has been used enough that people "remember" it that way rather than what the word of God actually says - and has always said it that way. I had to look it up myself a while back to get the right wording and was surprised. The principle is the same whether the lion lays down with the lamb or it was the wolf. In the kingdom of God even carnivorous animals will eat grass! There will be no death.

They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea. (Isaiah 11:9)

Is Billy Graham alive or dead?

How about about Jim Nabors?

Using only your memory please answer.

Huh?

Okay, my first thought was I don't recall hearing either had died, so I would say they are both still living. The evangelist Billy Graham moreso - because I know more about him and have a great deal of respect for him - than Jim Nabors (Gomer Pyle) assuming these two men were who you meant.

I'm not understanding your point for asking this. I recall a pastor of a church I attended asked his audience these questions:

How many of you have read the Bible book of Hezekiah? A bunch of hands went up.

How many have read in the Bible where it says, "God helps those who help themselves."? Again, numerous hands shot up.

Finally, he asked, "How many have read in the Bible that money is the root of all evil?". A lot of hands for that one.

Well, there is no book in the Bible called Hezekiah. There is nowhere in Scripture that says God helps those who help themselves. And the verse about money says that it is the "love of money" which is the root of all evil. People sometimes have faulty memories. It's a human condition. Some people's memories are better than others.

Debunking it with the Bible. Note: People make money on Youtube scaring you so that you watch their videos, and make more money. If it helps, the above video, and all of the rest of the channel’s videos, are NOT monetized.

Verse three of “Peace in the Valley” a 1937 song written by Thomas A. Dorsey, originally for Mahalia Jackson, and later sung by Presley and Cash (among others): “And the lion shall lay down by the lamb, oh yes And the beasts from the wild Shall be lit by a child And I'll be changed Changed from this creature that I am, oh yes.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peace_in_the_Valley Glory to God.

In my world both are dead. In yours they are alive. Weird.

My wife was at her mothers all day yesterday and didn’t get home until late. I asked her these questions and more. In her world they are both dead too. Weird.

Do you and your wife live in an alternate universe? Billy Graham is still alive. He’s 97 years old. I just moved from Charlotte, NC. It’s the birthplace and retirement home of Rev. Graham and if he HAD died, it would have been in all the newspapers.

Is this some kind of game you’re playing? How do you feel about the thread topic?

I think we must be.

And it isn’t a game.

I agree with the thread topic and have been.

I also understand how the mind can make associations and intuitive leaps. It is just strange to me that I have apparent “memories” that don’t fit the narrative. Thanks.
