DETROIT (ChurchMilitant.com) - There is a growing movement with Christianity calling for greater acceptance of homosexuality.
It is voicing itself differently depending on whether its of a Protestant or Catholic stripe, but it is increasing. Although diverging, for the time being, over the question of any sexual activity being immoral, both Protestant and Catholics who identify as gay are doing what they can to move the needle to a greater acceptance of homosexuality in general among followers and adherents.
Within the Protestant world, a number of big name musicians continue a parade of announcing they are gay. The most recent example is 35-year-old Trey Pearson. Pearson has been a fixture in the Christian rock band scene for 15 years and is the lead singer of Everyday Sunday (ES). ES has sold over a quarter-million albums and has played with other leading Christian rockers such as Toby Mac, Switchfoot, MercyMe, and Jeremy Camp — all high-profile names in that subculture.
Last week, Pearson, who has a wife and two children, made public that he has same-sex attraction and claims Jesus is fine with him being gay and in a gay relationship.
He is the latest in a line of other Protestant rock band musicians who have voluntarily outed themselves. Ray Boltz, whose music was a staple for evangelicals in the 1990s, was the first to announce his same-sex attraction in 2004.
He was followed by Grammy nominated gospel singer Anthony Williams in 2009. The following year, another Grammy-nominated performer, Jennifer Knapp, admitted she was a lesbian and, two years prior, worship music artist Vicky Beeching also made a public confession she was a lesbian.
Pearson's announcement is the latest and carries with it a possible backlash from his fans, similar to what has happened with the previous worship music artists who admitted their same-sex attraction. The singer, however, is dismissing those concerns and maintains he doesn't care what happens. He says his own individual personal study of scripture tells him that being gay is perfectly fine and being in a loving, committed gay relationship poses no conflict with following Jesus Christ.
When it comes to Catholics who enjoy some degree of notoriety in the Catholic world, the push for acceptance of their own same-sex attraction is somewhat muted compared to the Protestant examples. Not wishing to run afoul of Church teaching directly, they do not countenance any sexual activity per se, but do "celebrate" their sexual orientation and disavow any notion that it is disordered. The Catechism of the Catholic Church specifically teaches that homosexual tendencies are disordered. In this regard, Catholics who advocate for embracing the orientation, while rejecting the accompanying sexual acts, are setting themselves on a collision course with Church teaching.
The middle ground they are attempting to stake out cannot be sustained. The Catholic Church teaches that not only are the sexual acts immoral and intrinsically evil, but also that the orientation itself is disordered, the exact opposite of what the pro-gay Catholic crowd is advocating.
“Gay Christian” is like saying “Christian witch”.
Once again, I do not know of ANY gay “Christians”. Anywhere. In any faith. No matter what.
So if they lie to themselves often enough, they begin to believe it?
The Bible is pretty clear concerning homosexuality. Regardless of how many times they tell themselves it’s okay, it doesn’t change the truth.

I am sure there are gay Christians who recognize that acting on homosexual urges is a sin to flee from. We all struggle with sin. However, those that say they are gay and God is fine with gay behavior are sadly mistaken and not Christian.

Very true. I’m sure we all remember the Apostle Paul saying in 2 Timothy 4:2-4,
“Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.”

Someone who calls themself a “gay Christian” is putting their sexual habits ahead of their belief in Christ. In which case they are no Christian.

Uuuummmm, no! Taking it to the pooper isn’t the same moral equivalent as forgetting to eat fish instead of a big mac on Friday during lent, kinda not the same.
Recently we are seeing more, and more articles about societal acceptance of homosexuality, and I do believe what I’m reading is by homosexuals attempting to make their perversion(s) seem natural to our young people who are naturally curious. They so often can be coaxed in the wrong direction by peer pressure.
It’s the left again. Trying to break down our morals, our society as part of their assault on our nation. They are trying to break us down to the level of single cell animals so they can reshape us, and our society to suit their Marxist vision.
It makes me wonder if these “bands” are simply setups.
Sexual sin is sexual sin. Funny how no one takes to the mic to confess he or she is an active fornicator or adulterer. But I suppose that may be on its way. Anything is possible when you begin to define God based of the reflection you see in your mirror.

JPMs = Jesus per minute. Supposedly PDs back in the day would only play songs with high JPMs. A person listening to the radio for Christian music often passed the drek by, unless he heard ‘Jesus’ and stopped searching. So a crappy song with high JPMs would get more airplay than an awesome song with low JPMs. Bands created their music accordingly.
