Although few talk about it publicly, I continue to be astonished by the rotten fruit in the Christian book publishing industry. I feel almost forced to say this at the outset: There are still good publishers. There are still good authors. There is still some good material being produced. Its just not mostly in the popular categories/circles (makers). Checking out Christian retailing online the other day was a real downer. Among the top-selling books/authors making their rounds through evangelical circles: "Jesus Calling," "The Power of I Am" (Joel Osteen), Thom Rainer, Rick Warren, Jen Hatmaker, Steven Furtick and "Half Truths" (Adam Hamilton). Among the product created around the "Jesus Calling" publishing phenomenon: "Jesus Calling Deluxe Edition," "Jesus Today," "Jesus Calling Women's Edition" and "Jesus Calling Large Print Deluxe Edition."
Anyone who has paid attention to the research of Warren Smith regarding Sarah Young's "Jesus Calling" mess should be dismayed. That this non-biblical book has become the publishing sensation it has indicates biblical illiteracy is at epidemic levels within the American Church. Rainer, who runs the Southern Baptist Conventions LifeWay Publishing Division, a cash-cow for the denomination, doesnt like to answer uncomfortable questions about LifeWays business practices. He finally blocked me on Twitter for asking questions about Alex Malarkey. He is a major change-agent within evangelicalism. Osteen
what more needs to be said? "The Power of I Am"? "I Am" is the self-identifying name God used to announce
Himself. Of late, American evangelical leaders have begun using the phrase to describe themselves...

Mathew 24
3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many
23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
Exactly!
We’re supposed to reject something without following the proffered theology all the way through?
We cannot self-exist like God does, however we can claim and use what God has by grace and promise bestowed upon us. As Paul said, “By the grace of God” [now brace yourself for the “blasphemy”] “I am what I am.”
The larger sense of a context and a claim makes all the difference.
No wonder “orthodox Christians” are powerless today. They have created their own politically correct taboos about biblical doors that the great unwashed are walking through daily.
Very interesting that this WND article doesn’t mention the rotten fruits of the Isaiah 9:10 books, the Harbinger, and the blood moon book—all of which were hyped for over a year on WND and are nothing more than sensationalist nonsense.
'Rotten fruit' endemic in this entire industry [Christian Publishing]
World Net Daily
ironic
World Net Daily is a fine institution, that exposes false Christianity
Good point...
This is where an authority would come in handy. An Imprimatur or Nihil Obstat at least tells you that it doesn’t go against the theology of the Catholic Church.

Have they changed who they have running the religion desk?
I’ve been noticing this as well.
Not having “an authority” is pretty much what the Reformation was all about (once Henry VIII had assumed room temperature that is)....
And therefore you get anyone’s whim of the day and maybe another Church Du Jour.
I read Platt's Radical and now he's on the IMB at the SBC (I think that's his position). He advocates going to non-US countries to evangelize. I advocate local approach: rebuild our local communities. Other countries are sending missionaries to the US....what should that tell us?
