More Theological Confusion Follows Pope's Meeting With Methodists

"Catholics and Methodists have much to learn from one another in how we understand holiness and how it can be lived out. We both must do what we can to ensure that members of our respective congregations meet regularly, come to know one another, and encourage one another to seek the Lord and his grace." Pope Francis Address to Methodists, April 7, 2016

"This being so, it is clear that the Apostolic See cannot on any terms take part in their [Protestant] assemblies, nor is it anyway lawful for Catholics either to support or to work for such enterprises; for if they do so they will be giving countenance to a false Christianity, quite alien to the one Church of Christ." Pope Pius XI, Mortalium Animos (Para. 8)

“If we cannot as yet think alike in all things, at least we may love alike." John Wesley, one of the founders of the Methodist movement.

"Members of both communities must help one another in whatever leads to the kingdom. 'Although Catholics and Methodists cannot yet think alike in all things, at least we may love alike'.” Pope Francis citing the words of John Wesley, Address to the Methodists, April 7, 2016

"While the doctrine of justification by faith alone is taught by the Methodists, the performance of good works enjoined by God is commended, but the doctrine of works of supererogation is condemned. Only two sacraments are admitted: Baptism and the Lord's Supper. Baptism does not produce sanctifying grace in the soul, however, but only strengthens its faith, and is the sign of a regeneration which has already taken place in the recipient. Its administration to infants is commanded because they are already members of the Kingdome of God. The Eucharist is a memorial of the Passion and Death of Jesus Christ, who is not really present under the species of bread and wine, but is received in a spiritual manner by believers." The Catholic Encyclopedia on Methodism.

"Catholics and Methodists can encounter one another and grow in appreciation of one another’s faith." Pope Francis, Address to the Methodists, April 7, 2016

"Protestantism is nothing more than another form of the same true Christian religion, in which form it is given to please God equally as in the Catholic Church." (No. 18). CONDEMNED by Blessed Pius IX in the Syllabus of Errors

"We come together united in the faith that Jesus is Lord and that God has raised him from the dead. This baptismal faith makes us truly brothers and sisters." Pope Francis, Address to the Methodists, April 7, 2016

We can seek the Lord and his grace without the Pope, thank you.

Do you consider Popes Pius IX and XI to have been Catholics?

If so, what is your problem with them?

In the early 1960’s we had a Catholic family that attended our Methodist church because the closest Catholic Church was one hundred miles away. I remember it so vividly because the Fitzpatricks had seven kids in their family. Before then our family always got the award for having the largest family attendance.
