I’m not sure too many Protestants were thinking about this.

God works in mysterious ways. There is a reason for this guy. Perhaps I will live long enough to understand. Perhaps not.

My ancestor was burned at the stake — in 1612, IIRC — because he didn’t believe in infant baptism. (It’s not Biblical.) I guess I won’t forgive them.

I do not like this pope and I'll be very up front about it, I think he's Peter the Roman...

But I have my faith in the Lord, and I pray and read the Bible always, I don't listen to this man because that is all he is, is a man who is trying to get a ‘one world government’ thinking the Catholic Church is going to be the only church...

He's to lead his flock in the beliefs of Catholic teachings and not in World government!!!

I hate to interject a bit of reality, but the Protestants started off attacking Catholics about as soon as Luther had followers. In addition, even the schismatic Anglican Church (before it accepted full blown Protestantism from Cranmer and went beyond mere schism) was ruthless in its attacks against Catholics, not only torturing and killing them, but destroying or seizing churches and monasteries, killing religious or expelling them from their convents to starve to death in the roads, all to extend the new religion of Henry VIII.

In Germany, Protestantism immediately unleashed a bloodbath because of Luther’s connection with various German rulers, and not much later, Calvin launched his own war not only on Catholics but on other Protestants. Geneva was the scene of burning at the stake and numerous other tortures and execution methods; not to mention when he marched Catholics naked into the lake in the winter and made them stand there until they froze to death. I believe he did the same with a group of Anabaptists.

The pope should apologize for not starting a Crusade in the last few hundred years. That is why we are having so much trouble today. I’m Protestant but I appreciate all that was done during the Crusades.

It’s not the persecution that I’m annoyed with. It’s the doctrine.

Can’t seem to recall ever meeting a single living Catholic who participated in the reformation-era prosecutions. As for forgiving those who did, all now long dead, what wrong did they do to me personally?

Kinda doubt any Catholics now alive have ever met a living Protestant who misbehaved during that era.

Injury or guilt aren’t communicable, imputed as if they were diseases, no matter what American race baiters want to believe. Scripture is rather clear: a man that sins dies for his own sin, not that of his relations.

“”As bishop of Rome and pastor of the Catholic Church, I want to beg for mercy and forgiveness for un-Gospel-like behaviour on the part of Catholics against Christians of other churches,” the Pope said on Monday at a prayer service concluding the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. “

Only God can forgive the sins of the Roman Catholic Church.

However, it is a humble action and always right for anyone who claims the name of Christ.

I don't think the Prots are worrying about an apology. God is still waiting, however. The letter to Thyatira in Rev 2:18 is to the RCC. They are promised the Tribulation in Rev 2:22 if they don't repent of their sin. Then we have whole chapters on the whore of Babylon Rev 17,18. Rev 17:6-9 explains what John saw that amazed him. Why would Christians murder so many Christians? When Constantine and Augustine fornicated with the church, she became the go to prostitute for thousands of years and murdered anyone that tried to get out from under them. During the 12-13th centuries, many popes were bastard children of popes and kings and even had children appointed to offices to keep the money in the family. In Rev 18:4-5, Jesus calls His people out of her as judgement cannot hold back any longer. 1 Tim speaks of Jesus being the only Mediator, and the doctrines of demons includes forbidding to marry. Peter was never a pope as James took over the church when Jesus ascended. There are no popes, nuns, or cardinals, in Scripture. It is the "traditions of men".

I know this is a waste of time to anyone that isn't looking for what God wants, but a short search in Scripture makes the RCC naked for what it is in God's eyes. Worship of a denomination is just as sinful as worship of idols. It's the revelation of the Messiah by the Holy Spirit that was the foundation of the church, not a man called Peter. Peter was never more than just another Apostle. God makes us saints and priests according to Scripture, not a vote of men.

The church God set up was from about 33AD to around 400AD. Then Rome took over the church dictating what Christians were supposed to follow. That system was in effect till Martin Luther and even then many things in the break off church were modeled after the Babylonian church of idol worship. The true church, the church Jesus Christ set up, was more like the churches setup in the first 3-400 years. A start would be "A Woman Rides the Beast" on Youtube. There is plenty more after that, but keep in mind, the time is getting real short for your decision.

After walking across the threshold of the Holy Door of the Basilica of St Paul Outside the Walls with an Orthodox metropolitan and an Anglican archbishop, Pope Francis invoked God's mercy upon divided Christians and apologised for times that Catholics may have hurt members of other denominations.

Does that include the constant hate campaign against creationists and total inerrantists?

The current crisis in the Catholic Church has its origin in its refusal to defend the integrity of the Bible. The Church deserves everything it is going through in spades for this. But even the "conservative" Catholics here on FR absolutely refuse to see this and continue to attack "literalism" and defend evolution and higher criticism.

This is why your Church is being destroyed. But pay no attention. Keep screaming about the Latin mass, birth control, and the Masonic Conspiracy and ignore your crimes against the Bible altogether.

As bishop of Rome and pastor of the Catholic Church, I want to beg for mercy and forgiveness for un-Gospel-like behaviour on the part of Catholics against Christians of other churches," the Pope said on Monday at a prayer service concluding the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.

I interpreted this as pertaining to actual bona fide churches (Orthodox Churches) rather than "faith communities." What is the original Greek ?

The only thing Francis should be apologizing for is claiming to be Catholic.

Maybe they should close this office then.

Founded in 1542 by Pope Paul III with the Constitution "Licet ab initio," the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith was originally called the Sacred Congregation of the Universal Inquisition as its duty was to defend the Church from heresy. It is the oldest of the Curia's nine congregations.

Pope St. Pius X in 1908 changed the name to the Sacred Congregation of the Holy Office. It received its current name in 1965 with Pope Paul VI. Today, according to Article 48 of the Apostolic Constitution on the Roman Curia, "Pastor Bonus", promulgated by the Holy Father John Paul II on June 28, 1988, «the duty proper to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith is to promote and safeguard the doctrine on the faith and morals throughout the Catholic world: for this reason everything which in any way touches such matter falls within its competence.»
