Hundreds of Mormons plan to resign from the church in Salt Lake City this weekend at a protest against a church policy barring the children of married same-sex couples from receiving baptism, organizers said on Thursday.
The policy, approved last week by leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, added same-sex marriage to the list of acts considered to be a renunciation of the Mormon faith and thus subject to church discipline, including excommunication.

The children are not banned.
All minor children need the permission of parents to be baptized anyway.
When they are 18 they aren’t minors anymore and can decide for themselves. For children of parents of same sex couples, at 18 they also also have to disavow the practice of same sex marriage (not disavow their parents). It’s the same as children of polygamists. when they are 18 they must deny the practice or polygamy.
“Huh? Because they are trying to follow scripture?”
AGREED !
Not a member...but...
“Well...
Bye ! “

Unless they are serious financial contributors, most will probably just shrug their shoulders. Maybe Orrin Grant Hatch will come to their rescue.
But it is an odd position for the Mormon Church to take.
Thanks for the link.
well.....bye.
“But it is an odd position for the Mormon Church to take.”
Not really. The church has always taken the position that it does not want to be responsible for causing conflict within the family. That is why minors needs their parents’ permission to be baptized. It is also why the church will not baptize people who will certainly face problems at home, such as Muslims who want to convert but also live in a country that punishes those who leave the Muslim faith. In the early years when the members were leaving the United States because of persecution, women whose husbands did not agree with the move were advised to stay with their husbands. Missionaries will not teach inside a home where they are not welcomed by the parents.
Add to that two important trends in gay activism: First, claiming that baptism of children should be construed as alienating a child from a gay parent (especially when the other parent is straight) and the issue of pushing for marriages to be performed in church facilities. In the first case, the church does not want to cause problems between the straight and gay parent that might change custody arrangements, so baptism into the church of minors is now a nonissue between them. In the second instance, the church does not want to be charged with having to permit gays to use its facilities because now they are or will be “legally married.”
Understand that no minor is excluded from church participation in meetings, youth programs and other privileges and that they may be baptized at age eighteen provided they agree with the church’s position that same sex relationships are not permitted.
It is not an odd position but it is a difficult position, pushed mainly by gays who are given an inch and demand a mile.
Here is a good explanation of the rationale for the church’s position:

And how many Christians will switch to the LDS church because they want to raise their kids in a family friendly environment? I know Catholics who have done this in diocese where the catholics went PC....
yes I know their doctrine is not considered Christian, but many appreciate the support and piety over dogma.
Thanks for the enlightened response; we do learn something every day if we look for answers.
