Pope Francis marks 50th anniversary of Synods institution
Finally, explained Pope Francis, the synodal process culminates in listening to the Bishop of Rome, called upon to speak authoritatively [It. pronunciare] as Shepherd and Teacher of all Christians: not on the basis of his personal beliefs, but as the supreme witness of the Faith of the whole Church, the guarantor of the Churchs conformity with and obedience to the will of God, to the Gospel of Christ and the Tradition of the Church.
And in totally, we swear, completely unrelated news
Traits of narcissistic personality disorder: The most telling thing that narcissists do is contradict themselves. They will do this virtually in the same sentence, without even stopping to take a breath. It can be trivial (e.g., about what they want for lunch) or it can be serious (e.g., about whether or not they love you). When you ask them which one they mean, theyll deny ever saying the first one, though it may literally have been only seconds since they said it really, how could you think theyd ever have said that? You need to have your head examined!
UPDATE: an explanatory comment from my Guy Inside
Hes fudging hes strongly implying infallibility, but not saying that he will pronounce infallibly.
He wants everyone to come away with Whoa
this is infallible. We hear and obey! but leaving plausible deniability to say, No, no, I never claimed this particular bit was infallible

If you are going to accuse Pope Francis of trying to change the indissolubility of marriage, you should provide accurate, truthful and definitive proof of this.
“Do you consider Francis to be God?”
Not only is that a dumb question but I consider it an insult to me.
I am happy to withdraw from this. I regret—as usual—that I ever engaged here.
I am not a sedevacantist. I am a Roman Catholic.
I won’t be here at this forum anymore. I’m no longer interested.
And I won’t be looking to view any of your responses.
Valid vows, valid sacramental marriage. Subsequent infidelity is a red herring. We all have crosses to bear in this life.
"And whosoever doth not carry his cross and come after me, cannot be my disciple." Luke 14:27
"And it is granted to her that she should clothe herself with fine linen, glittering and white. For the fine linen are the justifications of saints." Rev 19:8
Au contraire, my friend. The Christians were so-called at Antioch, long before some insane caesar chose to bastardize the faith by making some idiot a “vicar of Christ.”
Please note that I am not assaulting any person, but rather a "theo-political" system that seeks to usurp God's divine authority. No human being has the authority to absolve anyone's sins. And no human being is ever- repeat EVER- infallible.
There is no valid human representation of Christ. There is no valid authority on earth but Christ. There is no giver of revelation to men but the Holy Spirit. And there is no man on earth who has any right to the title of 'vicar of Christ.'
Christ needs no vicar. The Holy Spirit needs no assistance. God needs no man to complete His work. God is God. Who is man to assume His position?
Wrong. King James- a Protestant- was instrumental in the Bible’s compilation. Your “church” burned people like him at the stake.
Oh, you know what, I still have that I think. But, I happen to like having that so I can quickly reference the differences between post and pre-Vatican II (although it is easily accessible online now).
” . . . Christ needs no vicar. The Holy Spirit needs no assistance. God needs no man to complete His work. God is God. Who is man to assume His position? “
The Bible reports it. Perhaps you dont know how to *read* the Bible.
There are translatioms amd there are translations. And there are experts who interpret.
It is not a dry read at all IMHO. If you really want to know what the original authors were saying, outside of the Greek, the NASB is the best. I would recommend the Ryrie Study Bible NASB version.
This isn’t a catholic thread.....they’re usually afraid to engage in conversation so a lot of catholic posts are protected with the caucus label.
I would say the NASB is the most literal translation but as such the language is often clumsy and difficult. I like to use it for line by line exegesis and study but for reading, speaking and teaching I prefer either the ESV or KJV. That's just personal preference, you can't go wrong with any of those.
Christian Tradition and Scripture counsel otherwise.
God has chosen to work through His Church and I am not going to pretend I am wiser than It.
We thought the same thing about Barry in 2012.
If you would cut back on the meth, you would not be so paranoid.
Wow, this thread is a mess. The usual pile-ons from the anti-Catholic Church crowd, as well as a few shades of sedevecantism interweaved throughout.
It’s like Scotty said about the warp drive of the Constellation in TOS episode “The Doomsday Machine”: it’s a hopeless pile of junk! (Said with a thick Scottish accent of course)
Despite centuries of blending pagan thought and practices into their institution, they steadfastedly resisted the temptation to officially make socialism part of their system. They were once anti-communist...
This dawned on me last night. This pope and other recent popes have been trying to unite Christianity. In the distant past, when the Catholic church tried to do this with the pagans of Rome, they adopted some of the pagan symbolism and ceremony into their cathedrals, rituals, holidays and in other ways so the pagans would feel at home in the Catholic church.
We know this Pope is into globalism (with embracing climate change and agenda 2030 as its solution in a big way). We know Francis and other popes have called for a global banking and currency system. This pope also wants, not only Christians to unite, he wants all the world religions to unite.
On the Christian uniting effort, I was wondering if he will adopt Anglican church beliefs about sex and marriage (sex and marriage originally split the Catholic church) at the family Synod so that they can be united in belief and come home to Rome. The other liberal Protestant churches may be united in sexual beliefs in this way too. The Vatican may be dissolving differences and objections.
He also seems to be diminishing the role and meaning of the Pope within the Catholic church. The office of the Pope is a big division between Protestant churches and the Catholic church. For example, Francis said who am I to judge a homosexuals sin. In the past, Popes judged right from wrong; good from evil. There has been more indications that he is not attached to the office of the Pope continuing, too.
I have read where he said those Christians who stay apart are listening to Satan. I foresee liberals officially uniting with Catholics to persecute conservative Christians. I see this theme of it being satanic to disagree with leftism or liberalism or being dangerous or even terrorism as it is under Obama.
The other thing he said that runs along this effort to remove differences between religions is that Jesus failed at the cross. I could not believe my ears. What a horrible thing for a Christian to say...especially a pope
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnMb7c1CNyw
But if you see him with the central purpose of trying to unite Christians and Muslims, he needs to diminish Jesus from being the Son of God to a failed man or just a wise prophet who was killed and died (did not rise from the dead).
What separates Christians from other religions is our belief that Jesus is the Son of God and the only way to heaven is through Him (as Jesus said). Francis canceled this by saying that everyone can go to heaven, including atheists if they live life obedient to their own consciences.
He also reached out to evolutionists by saying that God is not a magician when referring to creation further isolates conservative Christians who believe in Creationism in disagreement with Francis (those who listen to Satan according to Francis.)
When I begin to see what he says and does and who he is in light of his true purpose - globalism or creating global economic, social and political uniformity - Francis make more sense.
Sorry, never watched one episode of Star Trek. Even as a child, I found it to be silly.
Try to show a little even-handedness here. I noticed that you fail to list the examples of your Catholic colleagues using thinly-veiled profanity and personal insults. One of your colleagues, in particular, has added nothing to this thread but those two things and smiley-faces which I guess are supposed to cancel the earlier offenses.
Do you have some scalpel you can use to carve Peter's confession away from Peter himself? That would take a sharp blade.
Oh, and John 21:15-19.
I have scoured the Bible and have yet yo find the passage in the Bible were the Angel delivered the Bible to King James wrapped in cellohphane in an Amazon.com box.
