Pope Francis’ Latest Convert: Kirsten Powers
Christianity Today ^ | October 9, 2015 | Bob Smietana

Fox News’ highly reluctant Jesus follower has found a new church.

Kirsten Powers, USA Today columnist and contributor to Fox News, announced her decision on a live broadcast of “The Five.”

“Tomorrow night at 7 o’clock, I'm becoming Catholic!” she told viewers.

Powers, who grew up in the Episcopal Church, became an evangelical about 9 years ago, after attending Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York. Listening to Tim Keller preach opened the door for her to believe in God.

“I came to realize that even if Christianity wasn't the real thing, neither was atheism,” she wrote in a 2013 testimony for CT. “I began to read the Bible. My boyfriend would pray with me for God to reveal himself to me.”

For a while, Powers felt no connection to God. That changed during an overseas trip, where Powers said Jesus spoke to her. Eventually she joined a Bible study, an experience that changed her life.

“I'll never forget standing outside that apartment on the Upper East Side and saying to myself, ‘It’s true. It's completely true,’” she wrote it 2013. “The world looked entirely different, like a veil had been lifted off it. I had not an iota of doubt. I was filled with indescribable joy.”

Powers gave few details about her decision to become Catholic. She did thank Father Jonathan Morris, pastor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in the Bronx, on Twitter.

More than 100,000 adults a year join the Catholic Church, according to the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate (CARA) at Georgetown University.

Yay and welcome...
But don’t try change it, challenge it or ignore what you don’t like...
Don’t be a Cafeteria Catholic...
Either you’re all in or don’t bother...
Sorry but I do think you need a “purity test” for this....

Yes, but what kind of catholic will she be? What some call the cafeteria kind? I’ll take this, but not that. There are plenty of those. Of course, no church is immune. Sola Scriptura.

Was interested in her last book. Not what I expected from a liberal. Just didn’t want to buy a copy

Don’t blame ya. Think she’s been pro life for a long time.

She’s not the usual sinister demonrat. More naive and a big heart (easy prey for the demonrats)

My ancestors were probably Italian socialists, what’s that got to do with anything.

Poor woman.

I still wonder how that clerk who went to prison is a democrat. Scratched head over that one for days.

The clerk supposedly has changed party after she witnessed first hand how tolerant the demonkkkrats are.

As far as Ms. Powers, I was baptized as an Episcopalian but they’ve drifted so far away (as far as I’m concerned) from the tenets of the Good Book that I want nothing to do with them. Actually, I haven’t had anything to do with that group for a long time. Ms. Powers conversion is only a small step up to Catholicism. But at least she claims she’s spiritual.

Coming from NYC, Staten Island in particular, can’t say that i know anyone well who is anything but Roman Catholic.

One FReeper was nice enough to break down a number of denominations and their beliefs, but my memory stinks.

Besides, I have enough on my plate figuring out what the heck is going on with my group right now.

Yeah, I know...but I’d like to think because she is SO public about this that she has embraced the Whole Church and will not just attend Mass as a full communicant but live and testify to the truth of the Church.
Just my hope....

Plenty of non-Catholics, indeed non-religious white people in Manhattan and the gentrified neighborhoods in Brooklyn. Staten Island, as you know, is its own little world.

The Pope left Fidel with a book that may hasten his conversion to Jesus Christ. The press and media don’t report that ...do they?

Jesus Himself was scorned by many people who thought that He wasn’t living up to THEIR expectations of how a Savior and Messiah should act.

Let’s pray for all those created by God. They (WE) are HIS creatures in spite of their (our) misguided and sinful choices....but with God...nothing shall be impossible. He offers the hope of salvation to all who will accept Him.
To Him be the glory!

Not cynicism, realism. Besides what faith did she actually convert to? Francis’? IF so, it’s not the Catholic faith.

I’m so glad that almost everybody on here is so very perfect. Because what a slam against this young woman.
Sometimes this place is disgusting.

There is only one Catholic faith and I’m surprised that you would even write that. That we may very well have a bad Pope and bad people in the Vatican (like that’s new!) changes nothing about the Catholic faith which is immutable.

I’m willing to give this girl a shot. Many people shop around before finding a home. If she moves on, that is her loss not ours.
