Church should shun derogatory words on gays, Vatican synod told
Reuters ^ | 10/6/15 | Philip Pullella

Catholics should stop using condescending language such as "pity" toward homosexuals and find ways to welcome them as sons and daughters of the Church, bishops have told a major gathering on the family.

The comments supporting more inclusive language for homosexuals in the Church were made in the first two rounds of interventions at the closed-door gathering, known as a synod, Vatican officials told a news conference on Tuesday.

The calls by over half a dozen bishops for more inclusive language on homosexuals stood out because conservative clerics made sure an interim report at a preliminary meeting last year deleted a passage they thought was too welcoming to gays.

"(The bishops said) there must be an end to exclusionary language and a strong emphasis on embracing reality as it is. We should not be afraid of new and complex situations," Father Tom Rosica said in summarizing some of the interventions.

He said that the bishops had called for "a new form of language, in particular in speaking of homosexuals ... we do not pity gay persons but we recognize them for who they are. They are our sons and daughters, our brothers and sisters, our neighbors and our colleagues."

The Eastern Orthodox Catholic church should start membership drives in the US, I would imagine they could pull in a LOT of pissed off Traditional Catholics.

And I think they still hold masses in Latin.

OK. So let’s get this straight. We can no longer use the term “faggot”. So we are now supposed to say “male fellator” instead?

”… They are our sons and daughters, our brothers and sisters, our neighbors and our colleagues.""

Neither Romans 1:25-27 or 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 shuns derogatory words on gays. In fact, note that the Romans passage indicates that same-sex sexual relationships are a consequence of idolatry, disobeying the FIRST COMMANDMENT in other words.

Is the wealthy Vatican afraid of losing collection revenues from LGBT people?

Galatians 1:8-9 comes to mind, imo, with respect to this worldly Vatican synod.

Lots of dishonesty here, what I've come to expect from Philip Pullella at Reuters. Just one glaring example:

"In a document written by former Pope Benedict before his election and still cited by conservatives, then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger described homosexuals as 'intrinsically disordered'."

The document using that exact phrase "in intrinsically disordered," , which is "still cited by conservatives." would be the Catechism of the Catholic Church (LINK).

It's kind of like Pullella calling the Declaration of Independence just some "document still cited by conservatives."

Point of Order:

There is no such thing as a "Gay Catholic." The adjective is incompatible with the noun.

There are wonderful, pastoral programs ALREADY that help people with same sex attraction, with truth, love, reconciliation, and dignity.

Don't let the Modernists who have left the supernatural faith poison the Synod with their double speak. Grima Wormtongue would be proud with what they are trying to do.

St. Nicholas ... pray for us ...

Careful. The quote is from Fr Thomas Rosica, not “the” “Vatican” ...a term which is becoming less and less useful, as the doctrinal dissenters head for the microphones, and all their frothing nonsense is ascribed to “the” “Vatican”.

Thanks for clarification. Unfortunately, I question if some Church officials have ever independently studied the Holy Bible.

(The bishops said) there must be an end to exclusionary language and a strong emphasis on embracing reality as it is.

The reality is that those who have a same sex attraction suffer from a psychological disorder and those who engage in acts of sodomy commit a grave sin.

We pity people who suffer. That’s fine. That’s the Church teaching on it. Gays are supposed to not engage in homosexual behavior. Celibate people as well. Divorced people waiting for annulments are not supposed to be dating. For instance.

What’s wrong with pity?

It’s nit derogatory. People get grace for suffering.

There is more sexual abuse by homosexuals in Protestant denominations than in Catholicism.

I don't doubt that the Media lies and distorts ('tis what they do), but the Catholic leadership should bounce renegade clerics - such as this Rosica - from their ranks. Yet they don't.
