The real story behind the pope’s meeting with Kim Davis

This is what it sounds like when a pope gets mad.

On Friday, Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi released an extraordinary statement, personally approved by Pope Francis, debunking nearly everything that has been reported this week about a meeting between the pope and Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk who has refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

The private meeting between Davis, her husband, Joe, and the pope, which Davis’ attorney says took place at the Apostolic Nunciature (Vatican Embassy) in Washington, D.C. last Thursday? It didn’t happen. Instead, Davis was one of “several dozen persons who had been invited by the Nunciature to greet [Pope Francis] as he prepared to leave Washington for New York City,” Lombardi said in the statement.

The statement stressed that “the only real audience” — private meeting— “granted by the Pope at the Nunciature was with one of his former students and his family.” As CNN reported Friday afternoon, that student, Yayo Grassi, happens to be an openly gay man who brought along his partner of 19 years. “Three weeks before the trip, [Pope Francis] called me on the phone and said he would love to give me a hug,” Grassi told CNN.

The idea that Pope Francis has been following Kim Davis’ case and requested a meeting with her? (“I’m just a nobody,” Davis told ABC News after her lawyer began asserting that she had met privately with the pope. “It was really humbling to think he would want to meet or know me.”) Not so. Father Tom Rosica, who assists the Vatican press office with English-language media....

I certainly don’t think the ambassador - called the nuncio in Church-speak - ever dreamed that the Pope would do something like this. I agree with the poster above, who said it wasn’t spineless but backstabbing.

The nuncio also set up the visit to the Little Sisters of the Poor, which was also not on the official schedule. I wonder if Francis will turn on them too?

The Little Sisters aren’t as politically radioactive so disappointing them may be more subtle.

The Pope is an useful idiot.

The problem is that the costs of stupid and evil are often the same.

someone is not telling the truth about the meeting

Would Kim Davis have been there if she hadn't been invited? Why didn't Mr. Pope take this opportunity and speak out supporting Church doctrine about marriage? Those are two very big clues where the truth lies.

Seems to me Mr. Pope is embarrassed by association with those who stand up for traditional marriage. Either that or he won't defend the Church when it's politically inconvenient to do so.

He is trying to please everyone a little bit, but especially the left. The problem is, the two sides are really diametrically opposed, and he has to make choice. He has, but he is trying to trick conservative Catholics.

Uuuuuhhhh, ‘...no clear brakes...”? Check Hebrews 9:27 for the “stopping point!”

The Pope gets a little more YUCKIER by the day!! Why would he PERSONALLY call a former student who is openly gay, brings his partner, and says he can’t wait to give him a hug??? YUCK!

For those interested, Amazing Race went to the Pope’s church where he was baptized. Beautiful very large place. Then the task was built around the Pope’s program on cardboard.

As the racers very quickly walked through the church they had a choir singing.

You might be able to see the clip on CBS. Aired last night

Pray for a quick end of this dangerous, destructive papacy.

Better yet, agitate for it...irritate all the gushing women parishioners in the parish with constant reminders that the Church would be better off with a more traditional Pope...if there’s anything that gets the fuzzy thinking bunch’s panties in a wad, it’s the word ‘traditional’...

Think Dracula reacting to a cross...

I wasn’t quoting the Pope. I was quoting a declaration from the CDF from several years ago.

The bakeries, the florists, the private-chapel owners, and Kim Davis, have all been following CATHOLIC TEACHING by RESISTING gay marriage. All of the resisters have been Protestant. The Catholic bishops have been TOTALLY UNSUPPORTIVE of the resisters.

Francis likes to play mind games with his flock...

Not too hard to theologically play with the minds of the typical Novus Ordo Catholic...little effort required...

I taped “Amazing Race” last night when they mentioned they would be in the Church where Francis was baptized. Haven’t watched it yet though.

I wondered at the time what a meeting with the Catholic pope would even mean anyway. I mean, we’re not Catholic, Protestants eschewed any special authority of the pope. What does it matter what he thought, or if he approved of her actions?!! Also, I was sure that if he did meet with her and express approval in private, that would mean he didn’t want it known in public anyway.
