My parish has never and will never sing a Protestant hymn. Having said that, I have no real problem with some of the better traditional Protestant hymns as opposed to the trash both modern Protestants and modern Catholics sing these days.
Oh, and it wouldn’t be about defending “Mother Church”. It’s just most music used in worship these days is banal to say the least. Music is the only area of beauty where Protestants held onto the ideal into the 20th century. And then that died too.
