Boy do I feel silly having been concerned about the current slaughter of tens of thousands of Christians, Kurds and other religious minorities in dar Islam (not to mention among divisions of Islam). It happens in every religion.
Taqiyya, teen style.

What does that mean, “For the sake of their own survival...”?
Is this a veiled threat? Because that is how it’s received by me. And “...move beyond the Teen Vogue level...” is definitely an insult towards those she perceives as not understanding Islam.
We’re infidels. She’s just two steps of saying we’re eligible for slaughter.

Yes. My God is about Love. The Islam God is about Death.

True. The goal of Islam is to convert all other or to enslave or kill them. That is not getting along......
It would behoove Catholics to understand their own rich history. A good place to start would be Pope Urban II.
Lets hope someone has/will written/write a letter to the Teen Vogue editor making the clarifications and explanations given in your article. It is amazing the ongoing attempt to soften the extremes of Muslim faith. True Islamic faith is not compatible with democracy. So Muslims here in America either have to ignore some of those extremes or find a way to down play it.
