Sanders full remarks, reprinted below and are worth reading, but in addition to global warming he said he and the pope agree that casino-type capitalism and income inequality are a scourge on society, that senior citizens are too often abandoned and alone, and that young people are losing hope because they have few concrete prospects for a full life.

I don’t get this. Isn’t Bernie Jewish?
Didn’t some high ranking Cardinal in the Church tell the Pope to leave science to the scientists and not get involved in this nonsense? I wish Pope Francis would take his advise.
He’s Jewish, he’s pro-infanticide and he’s pro-homo “marriage.
I know. I read the article and am familiar with him. I think the title is kind of clunky.
I won't leave the Church because of him (although I had been thinking of doing so), but what he says means nothing to me except for something to oppose.
/sucks
/I will stay in the Church because of Him. And go ahead, Catholic bashers, bash away...
Yes, Bernie is Jewish, I’m pretty sure. And I’m not addressing the substance of this thread, but I gotta say I’m liking Bernie Sanders more than a little bit.
Not for president, of course, but I liked what he said to those nuts at netroots nation, and, although it is pure BS I even sort of like that he tried to stand up for PP.
Bernie Sanders, not a crook, not a coward, to me he’s making the rest of them look bad.
Don’t flame me, please, these are idle thoughts and for the record, I hate PP as much as anyone.
I don’t understand the point here. Is John Boehner known as a particularly orthodox Catholic?
The American bishops have been tireless for almost fifty years trying to keep Catholics voting Democrat. Cardinal Bernardin was a standout in this regard, but O’Malley, Dolan, Wuerl, Cupich, McElroy, and most other bishops do all they can—especially by giving Communion to pro-abortion Democrat Catholics.
But this is the first Pope who has gone out of his way to make pro-abort Catholics “comfortable” as “Catholics.”
No flame here. Whatever else you can say about him, I think he’s honest. He’s wrong in many big ways, but id prefer him over Hillary.
You probably mean George Cardinal Pell, of Australia, on the Pope’s financial oversight committee and “gang of 9”. A respected and very reasonable man. He did not word it as strongly as you did, it was sort of round-about. He said something like the Holy Spirit does not dictate specific scientific data to us, that the Church, while respecting scientific endeavor and research, is not an expert at interpreting it.
I’d really like to see it come down to Walker v. Sanders. Two non-rich, non-Ivy (just googled to be sure and I see Bernie went to U. Chi. very impressive and my brother went there), honest guys.
On completely opposite sides of the spectrum.
Yes, it would be bad if Bernie came out on top in that race, but I’d like our chances.
And, as you say NOT HILLARY! That dame is just a charmless crook.
Imagine her in the Angelica Huston role in “The Grifters”, but without any of the je ne sais quoi, she is just a complete schlub.
I hope Bernie starts calling her that! And, LOL, I’d love to hear Walker try and call her that too!
Yes that must have been what I read, except he obviously phrased it much more elegantly and diplomatically than I.
Bernie Sanders sounds more like Reverend Jim Jones. Look on YouTube for a video of Sanders sounding like Jones.
It’s obvious you don’t understand the point here. The real question you should be asking is whether Pope Francis is a particularly orthodox Catholic.
I understand the point you're trying to make completely.
The headline posited: How Pope Francis makes Bernie Sanders look as Catholic as John Boehner
If it was going to make your point, it should have posited: How Pope Francis makes Bernie Sanders look as "Catholic" as (take your pick from one of the following: Mother Teresa, Charles de Foucald, Maximilian Kolbe, Karl of Austria, Edith Stein, Louis Martin -- etc)
It was trying to posit that with Bergoglio's positions as the alleged standard of truth, an avowed socialist should be found righteous regardless of his religion.
Trouble is...it failed.
