Today at Mass, the priest for some reason brought up the prophet Amos. I was fairly sure I knew where this was going, but stayed for the end. When he passed through slavery and war to get to our Pontiff's call for worldwide totalitarian government to redistribute income (isn't slavery the ultimate income redistribution?)I had heard enough and left. I haven't left Mass in the middle since the Sunday after 9/11/2001 when Father Jack at Our Lady of Guadalupe railed about "the corrupt men who control Alan Greenspan". Pope John Paul fought against totalitarianism and for the freedom of all men. This Pope is the anti-John Paul. JP was canonized by the Church. Francis has been canonized by the secular world.
Perhaps it's because the Old Testament reading came from Amos.

The Mass is still the Mass, even if you have the most liberal socialist hippy priest. I would stay for Holy Communion. I would also talk to the priest after, write to the bishop, and the Vatican. It’s ok to complain. Might also look for the next closest parish. We don’t have to stay silent! But I wouldn’t let a bad priest chase me away from the Sacraments.
As a non-Catholic, I really do feel for my fellow Catholic brothers and sisters, to watch and see how this Pontiff has turned into the Obama of your faith must be painful to bear...
That being said, I would never let anyone prevent me from taking part in the Eucharist. I don't care who they are.

As a devout Catholic this Bishop of Rome sickens me. I would love to see the argument between John Paul II and Francis. Where is the Catherine of Sienna in our day? We need someone like her to call out this man and publicly chastise him.
I hate to say it, but the current Pope is more like one the lying prophets that stood before King Ahaz in 1st Kings 22.
I'd look for a new parish if I were you.
Remember, we are the CHURCH MILITANT! If our religious leaders do not follow Church teaching=what Jesus taught, we are required to pray for them but also to FIGHT! If they are politically liberal, it is ok to challenge them. They should be concerned about souls, not push communism or green mother earth worship. But a priest gives us the Sacraments and I would never leave Mass. I WOULD confront the priest after Mass, though.

I would definitely schedule a meeting with the priest, and then proceed to rip him apart. Tell him in no uncertain terms that the next time he does this, that you will openly protest during his sermon and you will “call him out” on the spot. If he does this again, call him out.
Openly protest in front of your fellow parishioners, talk to your fellow parishioners about it, tell them the priest is a fool, and start a campaign to have him replaced.
The vast majority of priests willingly adjusted their thoughts to conform to the pope’s wishes. They are the ultimate sheep.
This pope’s pronouncements are in conflict with the teaching of the church up to this time. Read Divini Redemptoris. He should too.
Bold, even bolder than I have been. I am not Catholic, but worship with another denomination whose national leaders are profoundly leftist and my current senior minister is young and left. I've told him that we may not be long for each other.
Some years ago I noticeably walked out of two sermons by our then interim senior minister. He was spouting either leftist economics in one and voodoo climate science in another. I then took a 6 month sabbatical awaiting his departure and wrote a protest song "Jesus Thinks a Lot Like Me".
Right now it's day-to-day. On my denomination's FB page I am observing pained conservatives responding to lofty pronouncements of peace and unity. I am responding myself to a daily prayer posting. I added "Pray that we do not meet what we see as bigotry with what they see as vengeance." I followed with "Pray that we do not do evil to accomplish good and then call both good." I'm sure that many will not understand. That is the most painful thing of all.
What if the sacraments themselves are not sanctified, because of the lack of character and faith of the Priest?
In such a case, the Priest is not a Priest, he is just a waiter.
Reading 1 Am 7:12-15
Amaziah, priest of Bethel, said to Amos,
“Off with you, visionary, flee to the land of Judah!
There earn your bread by prophesying,
but never again prophesy in Bethel;
for it is the king’s sanctuary and a royal temple.”
Amos answered Amaziah, “I was no prophet,

Having read some of the social encyclicals like Rerum Novarum, I think the Pope is trying to say something that we are blocked from hearing clearly because of our secular ideas, including political.
The popes encourage a way which is based on Christ, on love for God and for our neighbors.
It is sometimes difficult for Americans to grasp that the Pope considers events and situations around the world, not just in the US. With 80 million Catholics, only a small percentage of who practice their faith, of the world’s 1 Billion Catholics, he has to think of more than just us!
So consider the environmental thing. He said we have to consider the poor when determining policy.
So let’s look at nations which decided to “go green” and now preen themselves on how they are not polluting. Well, a lot of the items necessary for going green like the windmills require rare earth metals, and the rapid increase in mining for these REM has devastated parts of China. I mean, those places look like warzones.
Had the green-wannabees taken the poor into account, had the government of China taken the poor into account, had the companies involved taken their employees into account, perhaps the process might have been slowed and developed in a way that did not destroy the surrounding land. But noooooo, the greenies had to get what they wanted when they wanted it, and the government and the company had to get their money...
So I think the Pope is still, in the Catholic way, bringing people to repentance and metanoia.
