In the 80’s, I had a Methodist friend who was disappointed in her church because they believed that sewing on the Sabbath was a sin.

I had not heard that one. The church of my childhood said, no drinking (ever) and no movies, card playing or dancing on Sundays.

That’s it. I read it in a short story some years ago and find I would like to use it here quite often, for instance, in reading this headline

I have read that version ("idjit") posted by Irish people in the DailyMail comments section; but as another poster indicated, some of the Irish dialects also say "eedjit."

It’s a good one for times like this. I’ll bet it gets used a lot. Well this minister is silly contemporary people are under the impression that because we are so technically advanced that we have license to just advance everything and charge ahead, no regard for the great and benevolent thinkers of the past no regard for natural law nor sound theology based on the bible not the bible not even God

Just some pundit, some Katie courier or some preacher or bishop who may or may not be in good mental or spiritual shape is going to tell everyone what we’re all thinking now, while everyone runs around making up their own rules

Families are destroyed countries great countries just left to the whims of whoever has a micrphohe

Eejits

There —like that

He has also never read the Bible and got Go the Father’s take on it - probably considers the leave the parents cleave to each other as man and wife bit an old wives’ tale..

The libs are not going to get their way any time soon the way the trends are going. I can see the liberal UMC churches eventually dying because members who are strongly in favor of homosexual marriage will likely go to the Presbyterian or Lutheran churches (which have similar beliefs) which support it.

I do, however, expect a lot of liberal churches to defy the Book of Discipline and do their own thing. Some already have with mixed consequences. If they decide on a wholesale basis to pursue disobedience, they’ll bring the situation to a head.

I wish that were true, but the Prog mind just doesn’t work that way. They do not self-segregate.

Like a virus, they need a host body and the PCUSA and ELCA are already conquered territory and they need politically-clueless people who are somewhat conservative to fill out those churches while the activist Progs continue their assault on the UMC and non-denoms.

They force us to self-segregate by retreating back to churches that are bastions of conservative Christianity. Then, when those are all that are left, the Progs will start showing up to “join” our churches too and start the infection process.

I think her name was Susan, but not that one. She came from a missionary background, went to seminary, adopted a special needs child who died, then decided maybe he wasn’t cut out for ministry after all, since she didn’t think God was with her any more. I believe she went back to missionary work.

This Mefford is an even more vile fool. Read the blog posting and find this quote...

This is not Mefford's first such performance. On January 22, 2015, he responded to the annual March for Life that seeks to end the legally sanctioned killing of the unborn by holding up a sign that said “I march for sandwiches.”

How is if that he never read Mark 10:6 and Matthew 19:4?

He probably has. It just doesn't fit into his world vision. Besides, there is something terribly wrong with a "Christian" who public states that they have never asked Jesus about (fill in the blank). One has to ask, "Why not?"

Being in the UMC after they started allowing female pastors convinced me that the Bible was right about female pastors. They shouldn’t be leading a congregation. Working as missionaries or teachers or counselors, yes. Heading a church, no.

The Methodists never asked Jesus to define anything, they relied on the Wesley brothers to guide them.....how’s it working out?????

John Wesley never wanted to start a denomination, and he would bristle at the suggestion that he is the head of the Church. Once again, I know its very difficult for those trapped in religious bondage to understand this important Revelation because it is spiritually discerned - there is NO religious monarchy in the Body of Christ. Jesus is the ONLY Head of the Body. Believers do not follow men, no matter how well they dress, or how impressive their titles and degrees. When churches follow men and abandon God's Word, religion is the result. Sadly, the UMC is not alone in this area. That is why you follow Christ, the Living Word, and not some religious institution. Religion will only pull you further away from the Truth.

I spent most of my formative years in the UMC, my parents, a circuit riding Grandfather, and extended family were pastors, teachers, lay leaders, and there were many Spirit-filled Believers among them. Over the 20ish years I attended, I could probably count on two hands the number of times John Wesley's name was mentioned in a sermon. It may not be the case today, but generally, I heard God's Word preached, more often than not by Anointed men of God. Jesus was the Head of the Body, the Word, His Truth, was magnified, and the Holy Ghost was our guide. So there really is little truth to your remark. I eventually left because the churches in my area started preaching less and less of God's Word. If you aren't preaching the Word, you are wasting time. Faith comes from hearing God's Word, not religious rituals and social commentary.
