Those who hate it say that He looks angry...

I imagine that come judgement day He will have a lot to be angry about.

How certain are we as to what Jewish people looked like at that time? As far as I know, he could well have been blonde with blue eyes. The Shroud of Turin suggests a strong Viking-like look (to me!).

Facial reconstruction exists for that era. They weren't 6 ft and pale.

Of course we can’t know for certain. But Roman burial paintings of the period show what Mediterranean people typically looked like and it’s pretty much the same as they are today. I just find this quasi-Nordic buff blonde Jesus with the Hollywood beard stubble a little bit jarring.

Thanks for enlarging it. Good message, too.

I live nearby, have been going for decades. I went to CUA, and spent a lot of time in the Shrine. I think it’s beautiful.

That said, Christ in Judgment certainly seems suitable for a Basilica in D.C. at the present time.

Amen to that!

This dude looks like he’s late for a meeting of the Justice League.

If you come to the East Coast to visit, you had better let me know because we must meet. On second thought, you must come and stay at my house, okay?

If you ever do get a chance to tour the Shrine, I highly recommend it. There are also many small chapels with gorgeous mosaics. You can spend a whole day there and still want to see more. The pictures really do not do justice to the Christ in Majesty mosaic. It’s quite an experience to stand right below it.

They have volunteers there who will take you on a personal tour and explain the history and symbolism. But you will also want to wander about on your own and drink it all in.

The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception is a temple dedicated to Mary.

This cartoon of Jesus depicts him as stern, forbidding, condemning, merciless, in no way attractive or gracious.

I went to this Basilica actually it is a most most beautiful church. You could fit three St Patrick’s on fifth avenue in this Basilica. Anyone who says they do not like his face has to see it the way it was intended to be seen in the place not a stupid close-up. I don’t how to put otherwise. This place has floors with other chapels. Their were different masses happening when I was there. I had a very profound anointed Holy Spirit experience. Praise be to Jesus!!! Amen!! Amen!!Amen!!

When I take a quick glance, I perceive a vague facial resemblence between these two pictures:

(Not an editorial comment about the governmental creatures in the DC swamp - just a passing observation.)

Cover the left side of his face and look at it.

Now do you see a serene friendly Jesus?

"schlock" huh?

Sounds like a word likely to have been imported into English, from Yiddish.

Check Yiddish Talmud, if there's a prohibition, there may also be more than one sub-clause elsewhere, one to allow for it, and another to either recommend, or else commend some past usage of schlocky-ness.
