The position of Archbishop of NY from its inception has and will continue to be a political position. With the possible exception of Terence Cardinal Cooke every archbishop from Dagger John Hughes to Timothy Dolan has been a politician seeking the best possible material benefit for his community.Like all politicians they made alliances with people and groups who were/are less than pure. Catholics you must remember here in America have been and still are subject to varying levels of persecution and intimidation. Often found in this forum. So defending the Faithful and working to obtain full rights and benefits as Americans has been a goal of American prelate from the days of John Carroll.
I wouldn’t dispute that. Dolan is still a major creep - just my opinion, of course.
P.S.: No one forged more alliances than John O’Connor. He was very close friends with the powerful mayor of NY. He did not march in gay parades and did not put up with the disgusting actions of Act Up. Dolan wants to be loved. Somehow, I doubt he is.
