Take a look at this list of countries: Belgium, Canada, Spain, Argentina, Portugal, Brazil, France, Uruguay, Luxembourg and Ireland. Name two things that they have in common.
They don’t share a continent, obviously. Or a language.
But in all of them, the Roman Catholic Church has more adherents, at least nominally, than any other religious denomination does.
And all of them belong to the vanguard of 20 nations that have decided to make same-sex marriage legal.
In fact, countries with a Catholic majority or plurality make up half of those where two men or two women can now wed or will soon be able to.
Ireland, obviously, is the freshest addition to the list. It’s also, in some ways, the most remarkable one. It’s the first country to approve same-sex marriage by a popular referendum. The margin wasn’t even close. About 62 percent of voters embraced marriage equality.
And they did so despite a past of great fealty to the Catholic Church’s official teachings on, for example, contraception, which was outlawed in Ireland until 1980, and abortion, which remains illegal in most circumstances.
Irish voters nonetheless rejected the church’s formal opposition to same-sex marriage. This act of defiance was described, accurately, as an illustration of church leaders’ loosening grip on the country.
But in falling out of line with the Vatican, Irish people are actually falling in line with their Catholic counterparts in other Western countries, including the United States.

How can you seriously say that it has been proven that all data is wrong that tells us how Catholics vote?
We know how Catholics vote, collecting voting data is an old practice, and one of our most important tools on this political site.
Frank Bruni, a restaurant critic and gay rights advocate for God’s sake, is counting them as you and several other people here. If you want to be a running dog for him, so be it. As others have pointed out, all of Christianity is seeming to fail in the west. Everyone is to blame - including liberal Jews.

Such is the Western World now. When the West as a whole is drifting in that direction, trivial arguments about Catholicism and Protestantism are irrelevant, however much satisfaction they give to the more twisted souls among us.
FWIW: "No religion" or atheism + agnosticism is now the largest religion in The Netherlands, once a stronghold of the Reformation. Irreligion may also be the largest "faith" in other European countries. Figuring out just how that happened and what if anything can be done about it is probably more important than hurling charges across denominational divides.
You are the one trying to cover for the gay voters, not me.
I am on a conservative political site trying to point out how America’s largest church denomination, and one of which we are importing millions of more members and their offspring, votes on gay issues, abortion, and liberalism.
Not that you made much sense before but that post was completely nonsensical.
And you know that the “collected voting data” includes the likes of Biden, Pelosi, Durbin, Landrieu, Kerry, et. al. in the definition of “Catholic”.

I’ll try again, I’m trying to expose the gay vote, not hide it, as you seem to want.
The Catholic denomination is our largest denomination and the majority of their votes are for the gay agenda/abortion/liberalism, and we have been and are, importing millions more of that denomination and their future offspring.
This being a conservative political site, I think that is extremely important information, to get out to the people here.
Of course, they are Catholics and leaders within the party that Catholics most support and vote for.

Even though my Catholic family has NEVER voted Dem, I know that many Catholic families used to.
However, these days, the more serious a Catholic you are, the less likely you are to vote Dem — especially if you go to a Latin Mass. I do, and there is not a single, solitary parishioner there who admits to voting Dem. Not one.
Of course, I’m sure it helps that our priests seem to have no problem whatsoever preaching ACTUAL Catholic doctrine from the pulpit. Sadly, many poor souls are stuck with milquetoast priests who either don’t believe the actual Catholic doctrine, or are too afraid to speak it. I feel sorry for their parishioners.

When Ireland voted for gay marriage it wasn’t because they were voting for socialist economic agendas. They chose gay marriage in opposition to church teachings.
You’re actually trying, as usual, to smear the Catholic faith not expose “the gay vote” as if that was some big secret.
If you were honest, you wouldn't say such a weird thing, I have never discussed the "teachings of the Catholic Church".
By the way, an honest person would not try to claim that "Biden, Pelosi, Kerry, Durbin, Landrieu, etc." have been ex-communicated.
Biden and Pelosi were just taking communion at the Vatican and visiting their Pope only a year or two ago.
I suppose you want to claim that Ted Kennedy was excommunicated as well?

I’m talking about politics and the democratic vote.
This week, the Catholic vote and gay marriage, is pretty big news.
Are we now so parochial that we think the Pope knows who Andrew Cuomo is? Three-quarters of people in New York State don’t know who he is.
