"...I see that Andrea Tornielli, on his Vatican Insider blog, reports the voting results of the Synod with respect to the two principle topics that were debated: admission to the Sacraments of those divorced and remarried: 104 in favor, 74 not in favor; with respect to gay unions: 118 placet and 62 non placet. That signifies that the majority of two thirds that was called for as a basis for specific passages to be considered as the expression of the Synod was not there. But this also shows that we came close to that two thirds majority " http://rorate-caeli.blogspot.com/2014/10/over-half-bishops-in-synod-have-already.html
Cardinal Sarah of Guinea, who happens to be Prefect of the Congregation for the Discipline of the Sacraments, stated, I solemnly affirm that the church of Africa will firmly oppose any rebellion against the teaching of Jesus and of the magisterium.
There is by no means a united front, and those who actually attend the synod and vote are not necessarily in line with his pronouncement. For instance, Archbishop Charles Palmer-Buckle, who has been selected to participate in the synod and who hails from Ghana, has stated publicly that he supports Kasper's heresies.
If preservation of the status quo (praxis in conformity with unchangeable doctrine) depends on a handful of Polish "dissidents" and an unknown number of Africans against the rest of the world, odds are low that the Kasper disaster will be averted.
It's true that even the Poles and the Africans are not a total united front, but frankly, I think Kasper is in a funk sweat.
