VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - A prominent American Catholic gay rights group was given VIP treatment for the first time at an audience with Pope Francis on Wednesday, a move members saw as a sign of change in the Roman Catholic Church.

"This is a sign of movement that's due to the Francis effect," said Sister Jeannine Gramick, co-founder of New Ways Ministry, which ministers to homosexual Catholics and promotes gay rights in the 1.2 billion-member Church.

Gramick and executive director Francis DeBernardo led a pilgrimage of 50 homosexual Catholics to the audience in St. Peter's Square.

They told Reuters in an interview afterwards that when the group came to Rome on Catholic pilgrimages during the papacies of Francis's predecessors John Paul and Benedict, "they just ignored us".

This time, a U.S. bishop and a top Vatican official backed their request and they sat in a front section with dignitaries and special Catholic groups. As the pope passed, they sang "All Are Welcome," a hymn symbolizing their desire for a more inclusive Church.

So the so-called representative of Christ, from the line of Peter, the "Pontifex Maximus", the "the high priest as the earthly head of God’s people" (http://www.catholic.com/quickquestions/is-the-pope-similar-to-the-high-priest-in-the-old-testament) is giving militant sodomites VIP treatment?

What the hell is wrong with everyone that they are so enamored with such a small group of perverts?

Either the Catholic Church purges homosexuals from the clergy or the horrific molestation of young boys by vile homosexual priests will continue.

I have nothing against Catholics. We are all His people. I can’t help but wonder if this particular pope is himself, homosexual. He (or at least media coverage of him) is obsessed with homosexuality.

I think the actions of the Roman Church are damnable, but the Southern Baptist Convention did the same thing a couple of years ago.

In my eyes, this makes the darn Rome thing look no better, than a meeting of the jehovah’s witlesses.

We are all His people.

That is where you are mistaken. We are NOT all His people. Some of us are the sons of the Devil. Jesus said so.

Civilization is in a war with crazy fanatics. What sets Christians apart is our religious values. Now is not the time to be anything buy totally dedicated to our values and religious principles.

Gays are either with us or against us. This is not the time to do anything but keep their personal failings to themselves. And Pope Francis? I wish he'd stop this trendy-PC stuff and focus on how close the shore of Libya is to southern Italy, and how to stop this threat so near their shores.

A couple of days ago someone posted a link to a Catholic website that monitors doctrinal aberrations in the church. One section was devoted to homosexuality, and it noted that several Jesuit (Catholic) universities (Santa Clara and San Francisco and Georgetown, to be specific) openly promote homosexuality, host gay social events such as gay proms, and allow openly practicing homosexuals full participation in church life. The local bishops do NOTHING to interfere with this.

I never thought I'd be relieved.

I've been hearing that a lot lately, in a number of variations. Not just in this forum, either.

There is a group of Catholics who suffer from same sex attraction and who keep Church teaching. The group is called Courage and I wonder if Pope Francis would have met with them.

It disturbs me greatly that he met with this group as their spokes woman has been censured by CDF for her heretical writings.

I guess “thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s ass” is no longer fashionable at the Vatican

I interpret Revelations with the same conclusion. Now a muslim invasion into Europe destroying the Vatican will fulfill the prophesy.
