Right! Welcoming all to church is wonderful and right. And yes, we all fall short of a fully righteous life. I’ve no idea if my sins are any “better” or worse than yours. But still, There’s no point at all in sitting in a church (sic) that deliberately and definitely preaches messages that are directly in opposition to Biblical teachings. Better to just go out and enjoy a day at the park, maybe fishing or hunting or whatever. Getting one’s known sinful conduct “approved” may feel good, but it’s clearly not valid. So- called churches like this only serve to confirm their parishioners in their bad conduct— in effect, promoting the continuation instead of the limiting or cessation of the evil. This is not a Christian church anymore, just the opposite really. It is wrong for this place to claim to beiing Christian. Jesus welcomed and forgave - true - but he also taught his followers to “go and sin no more.”

It’s as if all of the mainline Protestant churches have jumped off of a tall building, and are racing each other to the sidewalk below.

Your friend can stay within the denomination, just move over to Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. LCMS is solidly conservative and strictly adheres to biblical teaching. No homo marriage. No abortion.

We follow Christ who forgives and calls us to REPENTANCE AND CONVERSION.

I know that both the Missouri and Wisconsin Synods of the Lutheran Church are Bible based, but he has really been hurt by the ELCA’s apostasy and hypocrisy; I pray he will get back to Christ, he is a good man.

That would be nice if someone had the guts to write such a letter and I'd add:

"Please do not ask us to celebrate your mental illness. If you are willing to change, we can refer you to kind, loving Godly counselors who have had a very high success rate and even when not successful in counseling same-sex attractants into normal heterosexuality have, at least, counseled them into embracing celibacy, which is a good option that can also lead to a long and happy life rather than the dead-end depression, sexually transmitted diseases and even suicide where homosexuality eventually leads."

When asked what was most important in life, Jesus, who never spoke a single recorded word about sexual orientation, said the greatest commandment was to love God and love neighbor. He modeled love of the neighbor and stranger. He said, “By this shall all people know you are my followers, if you love one another.

this is a LIE!
Here’s what Jesus said on marriage-

Matthew 19

5 and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?[c]

Here’s what Jesus said to the adulterer who engaged in sexual immorality-

John 8:11

She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

so Jesus spoke of marriage as a heterosexual union and he told the woman involved in sexual immorality not to sin anymore.

Seems to me the leadership of the ELCA want to sin without any condemnation.

I ditched the PCUSA in the mid 90’s for the same reason. I was a Deacon in their church.

Repentant sinners. Most fags are perfectly content with their perverted lifestyle. They have no intention of trying to change. Next this church will have a fund drive for them at the end of each month. Jars of vaseline will be appreciated.

Jesus, who never spoke a single recorded word about sexual orientation

Don't you love how this gets regurgitated as if it's supposed to actually mean something? I'm pretty sure Jesus also never talked about microwaving kittens, so that makes it okay?

Why would he be expected to specifically re-articulate something that was embedded in the Jewish culture as a sin? Even when speaking to the adulterous woman, he didn't say, "It's all good. My father was just kidding with that commandment." He told her to not do it any more.

Yeah, let's see what else we can come up with that Jesus was never specifically quoted on. Ummm. Wife beating, maybe? How about rape? Bank robbery, perhaps?

A local church, I won’t name the denomination, has also made know its “inclusion” of gays.
Now they’re having trouble just keeping the church open.
Severe drop in attendance, no funds.
Guess there wasn’t enough of the gay persuasion interested.

Strong's Greek: 370

Being that you are relatively new here (sign up date [since 2015-02-05]) you are likely unaware that on the 'religion' sub-forum of FreeRepublic in particular, we have been asked that when we use other than English language words and/or terminology, that the definition or meaning of the other-than-English language word be provided, if that word (whatever it is) is not otherwise relatively common in U.S. cultural usage.

In this instance one would not need go to the lengths which I did.

One may have added something such as (unworthy) or unworthy, inadequate following Anaxios!, and that could suffice.

That said, the word is fitting enough...bringing to mind a particular Scripture passage in regards to what can make a man "unworthy", so I take it that you had that verse in mind?

In the Orthodox Church when a man is ordained a presbyter or consecrated as a bishop the congregation signals their approval by shouting Axios! (Worthy). In extreme cases when a member of the clergy does something deeply scandalous that the faithful see as rendering them unfit for the clerical state they shout “Anaxios!”
