Great idea! Is there a complete, accurate English translation you recommend?

I am posting from The Noble Quran Published by Dar-us-Salam Publications. It is an online version available at the http://www.noblequran.com

I can not advocate an accurate English translation, although there are many translations available on the web. It may be interesting to compare translations.

There is no "complete and accurate" translation of the Qu'ran into English just as there is no "complete and accurate" translation of the works of Shakespeare into Arabic. Each language has subtleties and meanings that cannot be translated.

Even the languages themselves change. Think of the changes in English over the centuries since Shakespeare and even in the last century.

I recommend that you refer to at least two translations in order to get a more complete understanding.

I have acquired at least four translations over the last forty years.

Two translations that I have used are:

J. M. Rodwell (1861), chronological order of the Surahs

A. J. Arberry (1955), very poetic and easy to read.

Caveat: There may be other more recent translations that are even better.
