Mr Tawfiq said: "It's not that I went looking for Islam. Islam came looking for me.

"I loved my former life and my work, but now I've found a peace that I never knew before."

Mr Tawfiq explained that he made the decision to leave the priesthood when he realised how lonely he was.

"I left my job, but not the Catholic religion," he said.

"I had no intention of changing my faith. That wasn't part of the plan at all."

"My Christian faith slid away slowly and Islam became more and more important.

"I play down my Catholic priesthood, but all I have is great love in my heart for the people who made me what I am."

"There is no harshness to Islam," he added. "It really is very beautiful, very gentle and sweet.

He must have read a different Koran, and Hadiths, than I have read. - Tom

He quit being a priest due to loneliness.

Then he found happy peaceful people and so joined them.

Not the sort that will strap a bomb to his chest. Wonder if he will regard the woman as second class.

Such tender guys find it very hard to deal with mankind, the mean jealousies of Christians, as any people, and will also find the same problems with people in islam.

One is a religion of forgiveness of others for hurting us in the name and spirit of a god that did such first for us, the other is submission to a hard reality that a god doesn’t much give a crap about you personally, nor collectively, really.

He’s still on his journey, I’ll bet. Good to get a good dose of reality though. Me thinks He’ll be back if someone doesn’t submit him.

He just changed one works system for another ...

Do you suppose the phrase "out of the frying pan, and into the fire" would apply here?

An unintended consequence of the Catholic Church teaching they all serve the same god?

If his conversion had gone the opposite way he’d be marked for death.

catholics will be sure to overlook this "defection" to islam.

Sad for this guy. No one knows if he was saved to begin with.

We need to be in prayer for all of the lost.

Isn’t he worried about some fanatical Christians hunting him down and killing him for converting from Christian to Islam. Oh, wait; I’ve got that backward!

Aren’t “lonely people” basically targets for all sorts of cults? Jim Jones, Manson, Moonies, etc, etc? Taken in this light, is this even surprising that you can find self identified “lonely” folks joining any faith that makes them feel wanted, no matter how wacky?

"My Christian faith slid away slowly..."

One is either saved or not saved.
I suspect that his Christianity was all head knowledge.

Idris Tawfiq is a Muslim revert. Not surprisingly, he is used to deliver for propaganda purposes, to lure in christians.
