Amen
What a bunch of tripe and pablum.
More Roman Catholic Cultism.
Hoss
Leonard Feeney of Boston was excommunicated fifty years ago for preaching this very thing.
.
That is cringe-worthy textual analysis. Peter was given a triple blessing. Sandwiched in that blessing is a reference to Peter being the Rock. Compare it with text in Isaiah 21 and see if the keys Jesus’ is referring too reference an office or a are they meaningless words being used by our Lord.
The initial premise isn’t wrong, and it is the height of conceit to think you can impugn such a clear statement, particularly coming from the “I can read it myself” clan.

idiot
Is this a serious question? You could do some research on the internet to find out information on the various orders of priesthood associated with the Catholic Church to find out.
Ping for later
Those who follow New Testament teaching which includes belonging to a body (of Christ) believers who also do are the true church. If catholicism is not following scripture, it is not the true church. And, in so many areas (many), it does not.
This is pretty near close to the stupidest thing I have ever heard.
Ha ha ha. Well said, and, scriptural.
“I thought there was no salvation outside of Jesus. Silly me.”
What would be silly would be to forget that the Church is Christ’s Body.
Nonsense.
Jesus was referring not to Peter, but to Himself in Matthew 16. This is borne out by the fact that He reprimanded Peter just a few verses later with, “Get thee behind me, Satan.”
There are several passages elsewhere which confirm that Jesus is the Rock.
1 Corinthians 3:11, Paul speaking: “For no other foundation can anyone lay, than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
Psalm 118:8: “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.”
Psalm 18:2, David speaking: “The Lord is my Rock...”
Psalm 18:31: “And who is a Rock, except our God?”
In Ephesians 2, Paul says Jesus is tne “chief cornerstone.”
Even Peter himself confirms it. In 1 Peter 1 4-6, he says that we all (including him) are stones in the building of the church, while Jesus is the cornerstone. “Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, Behold, I lay in Zion A chief cornerstone, elect, precious, And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.”
In view of all these Scriptures, I place my trust in the one true Rock, the one Truth, who is Jesus Christ; as such, He is my salvation, and I am blessed indeed.
Actually I do not think there is any salvation in the Roman Catholic church
Amen
I am glad you are so confident in your salvation, could you identify or otherwise explain the authority on which you make your assertion regarding the rock the Church is built on being peters confession?
It does not seem to me that Catholic doctrine specifically condemns all or any non-Catholics to hell, only that all salvation comes thru His One, True, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. I am not a pro and I am sorry if this doctrine offends you. Perhaps others on this board can do a better job of explaining it for you.
I can only imagine that catholics are very insecure or very prone to self-aggrandizement because they are insecure, the way these puff articles are continually posted on Free Republic.
Of course, the article itself, like always is silly.
Actually, it is not clear as to the reason why Father Feeney was excommunicated. It may have simply been about disobedience. However, even if the excommunication was doctrinal it was not because he taught EENS (Outside the Church There is No Salvation) it is because he did not teach the traditional teaching of the Church on Baptism of Desire and Baptism of Blood.
