Christianity Is Losing in America
American Thinker ^ | 01/14/2015 | Craig Dunkley

Christianity is under attack in America, and it’s losing.  Meanwhile, the Church is, in general, sitting out the fight and hoping the problem goes away.

Hope is not a strategy.  It’s time to act.

Since its inception, the United States has been a predominantly Christian nation, though open-minded and founded on religious tolerance.  Our sense of personal freedom and tolerance, backed by a thoroughly Judeo-Christian worldview, has contributed mightily to this nation’s greatness.  That worldview, and the Christian faith behind it, is being whittled away by the media, our popular culture, and a newly emboldened “activist atheist” movement.  The pace of that whittling has accelerated over the last decade.

Atheism and “Nones” Rising

Data from the Pew Research Center shows that those who consider themselves atheist, agnostic, or unaffiliated with any religion have been rising as a percentage of the U.S. population.  In 2012, nearly 20% of the public fell into one of those categories, up nearly 5 percentage points over the preceding 5 years.  When focusing on adults under 30, about one third consider themselves atheist, agnostic, or unaffiliated.  Almost exclusively, the gains in these groups reflect losses for Christians, with Christians dropping from 78% to 73% of the population over the same period.  Doubtless, the trend has continued.

Lies and Misinformation

Christianity’s retreat is facilitated by a new breed of authors and “scholars” who have worked hard to undermine the most basic teachings of Christianity.  With the help of a sympathetic media, they’ve captured the public’s imagination.  Their impact has been significant.

For example, from the likes of the late Christopher Hitchens, Richard Dawkins, Bart Ehrman, Sam Harris, Reza Aslan, Simcha Jacobovici, and others, we have “learned” that:

Most Evangelical Christian Americans fall for the Jesus is coming story. They think they will be saved from God knows what due to their beliefs and that they are going to heaven and that they are living in end times.

The republican party is doomed to oblivion due to their inability to include the name Jesus Christ (Our Lord and Savior) anywhere in their platform.

America's crisis is religious - not political or economic and kicking the can down the road for one more presidential term means the population growth of moslems will grow that much faster. moslems are supremely confident that Evangelicals and other harmless get along go along Christians will be rendered eventually useless when they die out and or convert.

Technically, Islam is having a hoot watching the non-christian heresies eat away at what's left of the living body of christ in America.

Evangelicals are America’s last defenders, voting about 79% republican, and hated by everyone as right wingers.

They are last on the list of the bad guys in this.

"Bart Ehrman shouldn’t be on your list. He began his professional academic life as a Christian Fundamentalist then found to his consternation while translating early Christian manuscripts (pre-Greek) that text was literally changed when translated into Greek."

The New Testament was origonally written in Koine Greek there are no such things as pre-Greek manuscripts. There has been speculation that Matthew may have written his gospel in Hebrew or Aramaic due to its supposed Hebrew audience but there is no evidence to back such speculation up.

....Or those Christians from countries that the west sent missionaries to, are going to end up sending missionaries from those countries to America and the west to bring the Gospel of Jesus to America.

The Bible was created a long time before what you are saying.

Gospels were written in the years 50, 70, etc.

These people knew Christ.

“As the enemy infiltrators push hard for the destruction of marriage and the family going into the second “Synod on the Family”, just a point of clarification that they will try to pervert in order to ratify their hellish plans. You already have heard, and over the next ten months will continue to hear many of these fiends say that Our Lord was conceived “out of wedlock”. This is BLASPHEMY – no matter WHO says it.”

“The Blessed Virgin was a consecrated virgin to the temple, and some of these consecrated temple virgins were married in PERPETUAL VIRGINAL MARRIAGES. Such was the case with Mary and Joseph. These marriages had two phases – a betrothal phase (which is NOT NOT NOT “engagement”) wherein the virgin wife had not yet moved into the home of her husband, and the cohabiting phase wherein the couple cohabited, BUT NEVER CONSUMMATED. But the marriage was done BEFORE the Annunciation. The Blessed Virgin Mary was NOT an “unwed mother”. When the Angel Gabriel appeared to her, she was already married.”

“Just stop and think about it. Use common sense. Do you honestly believe that God Almighty would Incarnate in the womb of an UNMARRIED woman, thus degrading the sacrament of marriage and thus giving Satan a cudgel with which to destroy human civilization? Really? God – who can do anything He wants at any time – would completely pull the rug out from under the entire economy of the family unit in the very act of His Incarnation? Of course not. He incarnated in the womb of a woman, consecrated to the temple since childhood, married in a virginal marriage, such that Our Lord would be BOTH born of a virgin AND a married woman and her husband – His foster father, and to them He submitted Himself.”

“Please remember this, and tell everyone you know when the infiltrators begin their “Mary was an unwed mother” blasphemies. No matter WHO says it.”

“If you would like a fantastic and edifying insight into the Holy Family, I highly recommend “The Life of Saint Joseph as manifested by Our Lord, Jesus Christ to Maria Cecilia Baij, O.S.B.””

Proof from scripture please.

>>Just stop and think about it. Use common sense. Do you honestly believe that God Almighty would Incarnate in the womb of an UNMARRIED woman<<

Please show where I ever even alluded to such. Post number would suffice.

Now, rather than some hyperbole how about you show me where the apostles taught the elevation of Mary like the Catholic Church does. Them teaching about her assumption would be a good start.

Yes, we should love a bunch of dog-eating Ebola-carrying brand-new converts.

We should be glad to have them educate us about Christ.
Because they know so much more about him, with the dog-eating
and the Ebola. Let's have 'em over for dinner! YAY!

First of all, the ebola disease is confined to the 3 west African nations, no were elese. Second, Asia has seen growth in the Christian faith, which would include places such as South Korea for example.

Maybe you feel a need to get educated by some dog-eating Ebola carriers.

I sure don't.

My people have been Christian for more than a thousand years
and sure don't need any bizarre n00bies educating anyone.

Again? That doesn't seem to be working very well.

This is like the 12th time and it seems to keep on failing.
