People don’t like gospel because of their pride. The gospel offers too much for seemingly very little. Many people want to EARN their gospel promise.

Oh, but you have to give up MUCH to accept the gospel -
you have to give up the notion that anything you EVER do could ever be good enough to earn your salvation.
