Because some folks just can’t accept that sometimes, some of the greatest rewards available, are just that easy.

They are taught that in order to receive such, the labor and sacrifice must be equal to or greater than the perceived value of that which they strive to obtain.

Then there’s a smidgen of greed, ego, etc...some don’t just want to reside in Heaven...they want a chance to become “exalted”...so there’ that.

And I would add to that, that you're incapable of understanding the Bible without a priest explaining it to you.

So, the Kingdom of Heaven, bought and paid for by the Body and Blood of Jesus, is too complicated to attain by the average stupid person and some mystically-endowed priests must intercede.

Reminds me of a friend who was attending a church his wife insisted on. The female pastor spoke in tongues that nobody else understood. When he mentioned that the Bible used tongues as an example of a tool for understanding by those of different languages, and asked her why she was the only one who understood what she was uttering, she told him it was because she was on a higher spiritual plane.

Biblically, those who elevated themselves above those they taught (pharisees for example) were called hypocrites by Jesus.

You are wrong, Wrong, WRONG!!!

Perhaps, but I trust that God would have found a way even w/o the Catholic religion. He's really good at what He does.

>> “I believe the Catholic Church has probably brought more souls to Christ than any other single Christian religion” <<

.
I really can’t see how that could be possible!

I see those few in the catholic church that really have found our savior as pure happenstance, in as much as their doctrines and catechism specifically lead people away from Yeshua, and into the worship of humans.

Paul addressed that, paraphrased, "If Grace abounds more than sin, should we not sin MORE and let Grace abound even MORE? God forbid." So, in keeping with YOUR question, I'd like to know: 1) What is it you did to Earn or deserve Salvation? 2) If the answer to the above question is "Nothing" which I believe it to be, then how do you possibly retain something you could not earn? IF you can't earn it, you can't possibly be 'good' enough to warrant it, how can you possibly be 'good' enough to keep it?

Read the scripture of the thief on the cross. All the answers are there.

Faith, Repentance, Prayer.

>> But if one believes in “Once saved, always saved”, why would one need further forgiveness? Why not revel in temptation? <<

.
“Once Saved Always Saved” is nowhere to be found in the scriptures. It is the most egregious blasphemy ever spoken.

No one is saved yet, while many are on his narrow path, salvation comes when he gathers us at the last trump, and only those that have remained in faith will be gathered.

The apostles have all stated this plainly, but there are those among us that love to twist Paul's long ramblings into something that they simply do not say.

Read Paul's epistle to the Hebrew dispersion, particularly chapter 6, to see that this OSAS nonsense is Satan's finest propaganda.

Hebrews 6:

[1] Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
[2] Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
[3] And this will we do, if God permit.
[4] For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
[5] And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
[6] If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
[7] For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:
[8] But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.
[9] But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.
[10] For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
[11] And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:
[12] That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
[13] For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,
[14] Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.
[15] And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

.
If Abraham had to patiently endure, who are these slackards to declare that they need not?

.

Keep in mind I’m not the one pushing “Once saved, always saved”.

If you believe this, then there is no possibility of regaining salvation after you have "lost" it.

No amount of forgiveness, no hail mary's, no absolution, nothing can get you "back" in.

If Abraham had to patiently endure, who are these slackards to declare that they need not?

So now we get to your real point. It's all about the works of man that gets you into Heaven.

How many do you have to do? I want a number. There has to be a minimum.

How do you know you've done the right ones? There has to be a list somewhere of the right ones to do.

Are you sure you believe this??

The female pastor spoke in tongues that nobody else understood.

There is a cure for that...

1 Corinthians 14:27
If anyone speaks in a tongue, two--or at the most three--should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret.

When he mentioned that the Bible used tongues as an example of a tool for understanding by those of different languages, and asked her why she was the only one who understood what she was uttering, she told him it was because she was on a higher spiritual plane.

However; this answer is partly true; for the Bible mentions TWO types of tongues:

1. What I posted above, and
2. 1 Corinthians 14:2
For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit.

HMMMmmm...

1 John 2:12
I write to you, dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name.

I guess having your SINS FORGIVEN is NOT the same as SALVATION to a Catholic.

Read the rest of the Bible, and quit trying to use one misunderstood verse to make the rest of the book a lie!

No, it is about persevering in faith to the end, as Yeshua and every apostle has told us.
