Connect your verse with Mat 7:24, Isn’t it obvious that the rock Jesus is referring to is his WORD and HIMSELF.
And in Mat 16:16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Is not the belief in Jesus, the rock he will build His Church?
You have to read more than that one verse.
Mat_7:24 “Anyone who listens to My teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.
Mat 16:15 Then He asked them, “But who do you say I am?”
Mat 16:16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
Mat 16:17 Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John, because My Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being.
Mat 16:18 Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build My church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.
Mat 16:19 And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.”
So instead of taking Christ at His Words, we should treat them as some sort of riddle or treasure hunt?
Seems to me this argument attempts to twist Scripture to suit belief rather than believe what Scripture clearly states.
