They’re a tough lot. On the other hand, they do have a tendency to get bombed out of their minds and get into fights in Rome and then run back to Vatican City to avoid arrest!

I know I wonder about it. He is by far the most liberal Pope I can remember. I think we will see a de facto acceptance of gay marriage during his papacy..

Hey, Pope . . .
I’ve been in the Army and I’ve been in the Catholic church.
When speaking of most rigid, I’m gonna go with the Church.

Does the Pope wish to become a martyr to the passions of the Muslims he honors?

Rank has its privileges, but it also has its responsibilities. He may crave the humble life of a priest in a land torn apart by poverty and hunger; but that is no longer his station. To deny his new purpose is to despise it, to leave its work undone while embracing a shallow, personal goal.

A general is no longer welcome in the enlisted club, no matter how much “he enjoys his privates hanging out.”

The biggest threat facing the Vatican is the buffoon known as Pope Francis. He is a complete idiot who is as bad for the Vatican as Obama is for America.

Kind of sad how we went from the triple axis of freedom in Ronald W. Reagan, Margaret Thatcher and Pope John Paul II, to

his wimpyship Barack Obama, David (”modernizer”) Cameron, and Pope Francis..

He is constantly trying to one-up his “humility” and “compassion” and his antics are getting more and more bizarre. Going to be interesting to see where it ends.

I think your reaction just about pegs it. The Swiss Guard are not their for decoration. Armed forces (private or otherwise) have rules, that is a big part of being a legitimate armed force.

I mean, next thing you know, he’ll be pretending that Jesus didn’t walk around guarded by mercenaries everywhere he went./

Are the Roman Catholics the only Christian branch with an ersatz military? It is a little weird if you look at the big picture.

I don't think he's even really that nice, or naive. Look at the brutal way he has dealt with some of the more traditional orders and conservative clergy. He has a a vision all right, and it's not pretty.

And like a typical leftist, he thinks he knows best in any and all matters, even those he knows nothing about...Less obsessed by rules??? What the heck kind of guard is he looking for?

If he wants a pansy military force he should change it to the Spanish guard or something.
