LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) Kentucky Baptists on Tuesday chose to sever ties with a Louisville church that is open to performing same-sex marriages.
Baptist leaders from around the state gathering in Bowling Green for the Kentucky Baptist Convention's annual meeting voted overwhelmingly to end their longstanding relationship with Crescent Hill Baptist Church. The church's pastor, the Rev. Jason Crosby, has said the church is open to performing same-sex marriages and ordaining gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual members.

Yes, that is the Baptist model. The churches are locally autonomous. They ostensibly withdraw cooperation with that church until it corrects it’s error(s), if ever.
Just like an alcoholic cannot drink in church.
Right.
The first step to repentance is admitting that you committed a wrong action, or are living in a pattern of wrongful behavior. It doesn’t mean that complete repentance is easy, in fact, you really need God’s help. But the attitude is all the more important. This is true for just about any sin.
Several hands went up in support of the sodomite cult?!!
Since this was an open vote, the hands that went up in support of gross sin should also be scrutinized as to their fitness to be associated with a Bible-believing group of baptists. There should have been NO objections to this excommunication - NONE.
Excommunication should be the last step.
They should certainly be placed under church discipline, which culminates with excommunication.
Believe me when I say that instances such as revealed in this story are preceded by many confrontations and discussions over a period of time with the church association body over doctrinal violations before this separation is enacted. It's almost never a quick, unexamined move.
First, understanding has to be established as to the positions adopted by the wayward congregation. Then, culpability as to why they have adopted them. Then, whether they have any intention of turning away from the revealed error and repenting.
Such as been the case with several Southern Baptist Convention congregations, which ultimately made their intentions known that they would continue in their heresy. All established by facts over time. It's not rocket science.
You can know that the right decision has been made to excommunicate when the expelled body then dives whole-hog into depravity after all pretense to orthodoxy is removed through necessity. This KY "church" will probably now go into even deeper apostasy, if that's even possible.
