I remember in mid-1980s seeing a cartoon (don’t remember where) that had a big sign outside of a cathedral that said, “17 days since a priest molested an altar boy.” And the numbers hung on pegs so they could be easily changed. I was 15, so I asked my dad what that was all about. It’s been the biggest running not-so-funny joke longer than I’ve been alive, so it just kills me to see these molestation “revelations” in the media, with the media feigning all kinds of surprise and your usual catholic spokesmen saying that every church has its bad apples.

It’s appalling, it really is. Warren Jeffs’ cult gets rightly infiltrated by the cops and he gets prosecuted and jailed, as it should be. What about the catholic church? Rampant child molestation has been known forever and nobody does anything until a kid comes forward as an adult. It just kills me that it continues.

Know how to put a stop to the child molestation? Pull their tax-exempt status for a year every time it happens. You’ll see a crusade against the molesters like you’ve never seen in your life. And there’d be serious talk about changing the requirements to be a priest. If you can’t marry or have a family to be a priest, of course it’s only going to attract homos. That’s as obvious as the grass is green.

In which case, there wouldn't be a Church in America with tax-exempt status -- insurance statistics indicate that the rate of abuse is higher in Protestant churches.

Paul clearly laid out the requirements for church leadership. The Catholic Church has blatantly disobeyed those requirements to their own detriment.

“...If you can’t marry or have a family to be a priest, of coruse it is going to attract homos...”

What about Matthew 19:12?

...there are eunichs who have made eunichs of themselves for the kingdom of the heaven’s sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.

Clearly the bible states that celibacy for the kingdom of heaven is a worthy state. Remember all men are sinners, however remaining continent is not intrinsically suspect.
