Polish Bishops Say: "Synod Document Unacceptable"

The Great Division - Wojtya;a Nation to the Rescue. President of the Polish Bishops' Conference: "Synod Document Unacceptable" Document of the Synod of Bishops Unacceptable For Many

The document summarizing the first week of the synod is not acceptable to many bishops - so says Archbishop Stanislaw October 13, 2014

In an interview with Vatican Radio, the President of the Polish Episcopal Conference did not hesitate to say that this document departs from the teaching of John Paul II, and even that in it can be noticed traces of the anti-marriage ideology. According to Archbishop this text also highlights the lack of a clear vision for the synodal assembly.

"Is the purpose of this Synod pastoral support to families in difficulty, or is its goal the study of special cases? Our main task is to support the family pastorally, not to hit her, exposing these difficult situations that exist, but which do not constitute the nucleus of the same family; they [the special cases] do not void the need for support, which should be given to good, normal, ordinary families, who are struggling not so much for survival as for fidelity," said Archbishop

God bless them. I’m glad some bishops are trying to stop this madness.

Yes, the Poles seem to have their moral focus despite having lived under various forms of apostasy over the years.

Here’s the big problem with acceptance of homosexual behavior is that it is in direct conflict with Romans, perhaps the most essential of the pastoral letters, which clearly condemns homosexual activity. Granted, it also condemns adultery and fornication are also condemned, so it is not “anti-gay” as some would see it, but there are no Adultery Pride marches in the streets.

A repentant person of homosexual leaning should not be dismissed who is sincere in their understanding of their sin. It is the prideful arrogance of the homosexual movement and its intolerance to any expression that there should be shame in their behavior or their lifestyle that makes it so unworthy of acceptance by the church.

If unrepentant homosexuality is embraced by the Church then you might as well turn the churches into brothels.

“Yes, the Poles seem to have their moral focus despite having lived under various forms of apostasy over the years.”

That’s exactly why they’re so protective of morality and freedom.

Amen, brother! And they shouldn't be scandalized by loose talk at the synod.

God bless the Polish bishops. Let us pray that more bishops are willing to stand up and denounce the apostasy coming from this synod.

Rather, ALL the letters of Paul are important, not just his letter to the Romans. There, fixed it.

Way too many have not read the document before commenting. Just reading the news about it is very deceptive. It is hard to argue against compassion, and many seem to do just that.

It appears they are heading to a schism.

Many have said that if a Pope proclaims something contrary to faith and morals of the Catholic Church, he ceases to be the Pope. I have asked for, and not had anyone tell me, what mechanism is used to do that (to be fair I don’t know of a modern case after the doctrine of Infallibility was made).

Could this be the opening move? I am being honest, not throwing rocks.

You are correct but there is a reason Romans is the first epistle after Acts and it's not because it was the first written. Romans spells out as clearly as any college lecturer our need for salvation, the providence for that salvation and the security of that salvation in no uncertain terms.

And while describing sinful man, Paul says this in Romans 1:26-27:

For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.

How can one rationalize "valuing" homosexuality with an act God (through the Holy Spirit via Paul) clearly condemns? You must either conclude that Scripture is wrong or that God judges against homosexual behavior and reject this latest document.

Got to remember also, both the Romans letter and the two Corith letters, bear with the spelling of the later, do not want to deal with spelling nazis here, extending it, Romans is like the police officer talking about the sinful man and the need for salvation, while the two Corith letters speaks like the fire fighters who need to get to a fire alarm fast. In other words dealing with the Christian community itself.

I wonder what they would do with Ephesians:

“And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.”

Would they say, “Children of wrath, dead in their trespasses and sons of disobedience who follow the god of this age have gifts and qualities to offer to the Christian community: are we capable of welcoming these people, guaranteeing to them a fraternal space in our communities?”

With Pope Francis leading the way, they probably would...

It is hard to argue against compassion, and many seem to do just that.

...not at all...most are making the argument that a known act against godly nature, if acted upon, cannot then be assumed into the Church population as if it never were committed...however, if an ungodly persuasion festers in someone, who then overcomes that through discipline, then compassion is due that person through Church acceptance...

...the problem here is that the documents appear to dance around the concept of ‘overcoming through discipline’, and speak instead of ‘valuation of orientation’, which valuation has, in fact, already been codified...as sin against God’s nature, in the Pauline epistles...

I’m pretty sure there is a list of Papal removal ‘how to’s’ somewhere in the Vatican, but it’s highly unlikely it’s been seen since the Middle Ages, or at least since St. Robert Bellarmine’s time. Unless someone here is a canon lawyer or has a extremely comprehensive canon library at their disposal, we would have to wait until the process was revealed.

For right now, Ed Peters is a very well known canon lawyer who posts occasionally on Fr Z’s blog. He would be a great source of info.

If Rorate Caeli is correct, it seems as though there may have been a bishop with an agenda, who may have hijacked yesterday’s document. Before jumping to any conclusions, wait & see how this pans out. There’s another week to go for this Synod, and the final report isn’t really supposed to be released until next Fall, after next year’s Synod. A lot could happen before then.

Digging through history, there were many Popes who were shackled by other bishops and lay officials. What isn't clear is how that will work in the post Vatican I world, were all sorts of power was reserved expressly to the Pope.
Before jumping to any conclusions, wait & see how this pans out. Before jumping to any conclusions, wait & see how this pans out.

Well, that takes a good freak out off the table! What is the fun in that? Still, I have seen things like this play out before. The expectation is that the final report will be very similar to the midway one. At that point, you and all orthodox Catholics will have to chose a path. I have seen this play out before, and I hope this isn't what is going on.

Good common sense.
