Why would anyone become Catholic?

Why would intelligent, successful people give up their careers, alienate their friends, and cause havoc in their families...to become Catholic? Indeed, why would anyone become Catholic?

As an evangelist and author who recently threw my own life into some turmoil by deciding to enter the Catholic Church, I've faced this question a lot lately. That is one reason I decided to make this documentary; it's part of my attempt to try to explain to those closest to me why I would do such a crazy thing.

Convinced isn't just about me, though. The film is built around interviews with some of the most articulate and compelling Catholic converts in our culture today, including Scott Hahn, Francis Beckwith, Taylor Marshall, Holly Ordway, Abby Johnson, Jeff Cavins, Devin Rose, Matthew Leonard, Mark Regnerus, Jason Stellman, John Bergsma, Christian Smith, Kevin Vost, David Currie, Richard Cole, and Kenneth Howell. It also contains special appearances by experts in the field of conversion such as Patrick Madrid and Donald Asci.

Ultimately, this is a story about finding truth, beauty, and fulfillment in an unexpected place, and then sacrificing to grab on to it. I think it will entertain and inspire you, and perhaps even give you a fresh perspective on an old faith.

It's a shame protestants don't believe Jesus. Their faith is a sham.

By posting this, you have called into question EVERYTHING you have posted on this thread in defense of your religious practices.

Thanks, Daniel, a good and heart- warming read. The selection from Spurgeon was wonderful, and so true.

Peace,

SR

It's a REALLY good argument about the effectiveness of Catholic teaching!!!

I suppose I could launch into a diatribe about the logical fallacies inherent in this statement. But that's boring. The only way this is a good argument for anything is if one is predisposed to accept a utilitarian frame of reference regarding matters of truth. Ends justifying the means and all that. Success as a measure of truth. Give me an ignorant, sinful Catholic over some slicked-up protestant with an effective PR machine.

“Meanwhile, the 27 books exist because God inspired them”

But it was the CATHOLIC CHURCH that God used to develop the Bible. Protestants can’t change history. Why so much hatred for the Church. Who safeguarded the scriptures so they wouldn’t disappear from the earth? It’s absolutely mindboggling that the majority of protestants on FR will not give the Catholic Church credit for anything. They just ignore irrefutable facts. Ignore the history of Christianity and want to constantly rant and rave about the Catholic Church’s non-role in anything. It’s really sad.

Doubtful, but I'm not overly concerned with it. I've said worse. I do not have the patience of a saint and thus my charity well is running dry. Although some of my Catholic brothers and sisters here on the RF have showed enormous patience and charity in the face of the continual protestant onslaught of lies, half-truths, and calumnies.

I suppose I should just accept being labeled a pagan, being in league with the devil, or the disrespect shown to the Body and Blood of Christ or the implied blasphemy of the protestant position towards the Holy Spirit with equanimity.

The early ekklesia, after much trial, prayer and consideration agreed on the NT by roughly 200 AD.

Part of the reason the roman catholic cult doesn't get credit for this that they so desperately want is that the early church was not the rcc we know today.

The irony of the rcc wanting so badly to be recognized as the ones who provided the bible are usually the first ones to slam non catholics for solely using said bible.

Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.

Are you equating the RCC to the kingdom of God?

Absolutely. The Catholic Church is the Church Militant. Which is uniquely joined with the Church Suffering, the souls in Purgatory, and the Church Triumphant those who reside in the Kingdom of God. It's called the Communion of Saints and is brought together through the Mystical Body of Christ.

Nope. Co-Redemptrix means “with”. But why should we let that get in the way of some protestant screed.

John 14:6 - Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

There is no other way. These are the words of THE Savior, THE ONE AND ONLY Savior.

Jesus alone is the way. Mary cannot save you.

Are the words of Jesus “Protestant screed?”

Got it. Anything in the Holy Bible to back all that up? I mean, to be convincing to a non-RC, wouldn't it be good to hear such an important part of theology from the lips of the Lord Jesus Christ Himself?

Notice “The Lamb” is beneath Mary’s feet?

Mary is and has been for quite some time the Central Figure in the Catholic Religion.

It's a shame protestants don't believe Jesus. Their faith is a sham.

JPX2011, do you believe John 14:6? - Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

It's a shame Catholics won't accept the sufficiency of Jesus but instead include pagan goddess worship, desecration of dead bodies and blasphemous idolatry in their twisted perversion of Christianity.

God spoke through the Prophets and called such activities "detestable."

a great picture of Fatima!!!, do you have any idea of how many people personally witnessed miracles while the children witnessed their apparition???? Tens of thousands....close enough for me!

---------------------------------------

2 Thessalonians 2:8-9

Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming; that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders

...Why did the artist place "The Lamb" beneath Mary's feet? Is Mary subservient to Jesus? Are Jesus and Mary "equal?" Is Mary greater than Jesus?

I truly hope a Catholic reading this has the courage to provide a straight answer to these questions.

Fatima represents Mary? And the lamb represents The Lamb of God, Jesus?

And Mary is standing on a cloud on a tree on the back of The Lamb of God?

Pretty wonderful for Mary, but not for Jesus and non-Catholic Christians.

The cults teaching say that none comes to Jesus except through Mary. Not one shred of biblical support for this. None

This is why I'm calling catholics a cult now.

Yet we keep putting God’s words before the pagan idolators. We’re just hoping some of you will read, pray and accept that Jesus alone is the only way.
